The Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains
We again hired yet another car for the day and set off for the Blue Mountains. By any other standards it would have been a long way, however after Darwin to Kakadu it was a just round the corner. We had planned to go back to Mrs Macquaries Point and Bondi Beach; however we didn’t realise that it was the day of the City to Surf fun-run, which effectively ruled out both of those locations, at least for the morning.

First stop in the Blue Mountains was Eagle Point for the views of the Three Sisters.

We tried to find the cable car that I went on last time I was here (see The Second of The Three Grand Canyons, however it was no longer there. Given that it was still in my guidebook, it obviously hasn’t been gone for long. We did however come across a place called Scenic World where there were other cable cars. The Scenic Railway that I went on last time was there. This is reputed to be the steepest railway in the world and was originally built to transport people down to the mine at the bottom of the valley. Apparently walkers used to unofficially hitch lifts back to

the top, which gave them the idea to officially open it up to tourists.

We then drove back to Sydney and then across to Bondi Beach, which was getting back to normal after the run. It was a fantastic beach and we could see what all the fuss is about. In a lot of ways it looked like a British seaside town, but I think that idea would be tough to sell to the Australians. As usual, the cold didn’t stop our son and daughter going for a swim. They were the only ones on the beach who did not have wetsuits on to keep them warm, which got the odd funny look.

Such irresponsible parents!

We went for a meal at an Italian restaurant. It seemed a bit grotty, but the food was fantastic and was crowded, so it was obviously very popular.
