Jan 17. Egrets, bats hanging in trees lining road into Bega. Top spruik. Newspaper article due. More spruik. Called papers in Sydney. No good. ABC SE NSW with Tim Holt interview recorded for airing on Monday Jan 22. Hot. Returned Tathra.
Jan 18. Mimosa N.P. just north of Tathra. Last night prawners, lights bobbing. Morning fish jumping in shallow remote corner of the river. Fairy-wrens. Old homestead with rusting tin, collapsing buildings, fallen and rotting fences. This place needs a good cleanout. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos feeding on the pine cones of monstrous old trees. Yellow robin? Piping of bellbird. Kookaburra, kangaroo. Bermagui. Long successful spruik. Moruya. Ulladella.
Jan 19. New Holland honeyeaters. A grey honeyeater with two red streaks one fore and one aft. Not found in book. Brilliant spruik Ulladulla. Later drama on ocean as overturned catamaran drifted past lighthouse and on for miles. Much interest. Coast Guard went out and towed slowly back. I don't know more.
Jan 20. Laundry. Spruik. Swim.
Jan 21. Northeasterly early backed to NW and became exccedingly hot. Sun radient. One of those days to close everything and stay inside, which I did with uncle John. Later cloud formed which took the blaze out. We went for a swim in exceedingly cold water, a wintry 16 degrees. By then day was cooling. John pointed out 'squirties' on rocks washed by waves and a dark green plant used for bait. Sooty terns and grey ternlet(?), gulls, oystercatchers. Later atop headland watching surf and surfers thirty dolphins heading north. Ten at once in the side of a wave. No real spruik. A few stickers placed but.

Dear Fred,
A teacher collegue and I saw you 'spruiking' at Ulladulla on the 18th jan'07.
It prompted us to include the ozflag campaign in our resources for a year 9 english unit on Australian identity.
It was a shame we didn't get to speak to you personally, so i appreciate the chance to contact you through this blog.
The web site is very good, especially the ability to print the poster to show the students.
Thank you for your hard work and all the best.
Lorraine.
