Hi all, Firstly, my apologies for “cocking up” my last blog, and missing entering the some of the text, but hey ho, there you go!! We are struggling so much to blog at the moment, it is getting to be near impossible with the work thing going on. I type this on Monday 7 Feb 2011; we are on a week’s holiday and sitting in the shade on a scorching hot day, in the Warrumbungle National Park, near Coonabarabran. The blog you are just about to read , was a blog from Christmas Island, when I was there on my last trip between 13 - 30 January 2011 and, so as you can appreciate we have some catching up to do. So here we go: As you are all aware, I am out of bed ridiculously ... read more

Blog Day 800 and something, will have to check It was all going swimmingly well, Caroline had packed, and I was up early just putting my stuff in my case. We were both excited, today Tuesday 11 January we were both off on business to Christmas island, Caroline for a couple of weeks and me for slightly longer. It had been a rush to put this trip together, it was all business related and quite urgent, so the flights had been booked, and everything was green to go. I took Caroline her tea at 6.00 am, she politely grunted at me when I took it in, and as I set her tea down beside her, she picked up her Blackberry, as I had turned on my heels and was heading for a shave. Caroline called out ... read more

Tuesday night was our last club night for ACT 4 wheel drive club, we had a sausage sizzle down at Molonglo Reach which was great fun, and hopefully next year we can do a bit more with the club as they do have some good trips coming up. Talking to one of the guys there who organises such trips, he was saying in 2013 they will be doing a possible trip doing some tracks we really want to do, such as the Gun Barrel highway, Gary Junction which are all sort of, left of centre on the big map of Australia. As I have said before I have a deep respect for the late Len Beadell whom carved out 2.5 Million square miles of un explored Australia, so feel we need to go and do ... read more

It has been a hectic time, I had barely unpacked my case after arriving back from England, and at very short notice needed to fly up to Christmas Island, so my merry go round lifestyle continues, once I had made sure that Andy was ok after his operation and some very brief preparation I was once again sitting in the lounge at the airport, this time waiting for a flight to Perth. In Perth I found Sue waiting for me in arrivals, unfortunately Cliff wasn’t there as he was working off shore and due to fly in to the same airport at lunchtime on the following day, my arrival was a day too early but I was limited by choice due to the limited number of flights. Sue took me to their lovely house in ... read more

It is a bank holiday for Christmas Island, as I explained in my last blog (Cove Day) 4th October. Caroline has a Bank Holiday in Canberra for Labour day and I texted her this morning at 04.30 as it was 08.30 Canberra time and she was off to Pilates with Bec and Sarah. I came in early this morning with my mate Pete, he took me home yesterday as I was raining so hard, it wouldn’t have been fun on the bike. The usual route we take was closed this morning, due to Crab Migration, hey may be, just maybe its starting just before I leave, I will be so happy if its game on so I will not have missed it. I realise just how lucky I have been, to be able to have ... read more

Well again, was whizzing along, down the phosphate on Monday morning in the darkness of the early morning wondering just where the weekend had gone. As the day broke the weather looked pretty black in the direction I was going, but as I turned right towards North West Point, at the road junction, I looked towards the heavens and in the distance was a big patch of blue. I thought just another 10 minutes, if the rain can just hold off I will be at work and no drama’s I wound the throttle wide open, and focused on the road. Flying along I felt little drops of rain on my face, and it started, and in a flash I was absolutely wring wet, I could feel water running off the helmet, across my shoulders and ... read more

It was Sunday evening and I got a text from Paul’s wife Neryl, the text said the road has just been closed as apparently the crabs have started to migrate, and her and Paul were the last people down the road before the barricades were dropped. I had told Neryl that there were plenty of crabs around when I was on my way home at about 3.45 and she said that a park ranger was out racking them off the road with a big plastic rake not that very long ago. I was up and away, early Monday Morning, on the scooter, when I got to the section of road where the barricades were they were up, so I carried on carefully along the road, there were lots of Robber Crabs feeding of their squashed ... read more

Here we are again, for another blog from one half of Kangaroojack on Christmas island, which half could it be, the good looking half, nope, the smarter half, nope, well, just say one half for the sake of clarity. Firstly the weather on the Island has been some what un settled we have certainly had our fair share of rain, fortunately a lot of it at night, and it really does make its presence known whilst bouncing on the roof sheeting above my head. The days generally have been hot, and sunny though even when it got cloudy and overcast it has still been nice and warm, so still shorts and T shirt weather. When we went to the open air pictures last week, I was starting to feel unwell, but I soldiered on through Sunday, ... read more
