Canberra is cold!!! (As in it was sleeting just a little on Friday!) Walking around this capital it also seems really surreal as there are hardly any people! Even the main shopping centre wasn't very busy and on Saturday most of the stores were only open for half the day! The city itself isn't as nice as Melbourne but does have a huge lake in the centre and is surrounded by pretty tree covered hills.
On Friday we visited the National Museum of Australia. It was free to get in and Em and I both really enjoyed it. (Yes I know I sound really geeky now!) There were lots of interesting displays about the reaction of the British settlers when they first saw the landscape and unusual wildlife, and the ways in which this changed as the settlers introduced new species etc. There were also displays about Australian culture and the native peoples so we learnt a lot :-) and now probably know more about Australia than we do about England!
Yesterday we walked around the city to do a bit of sight seeing. The main sites are quite spread out so we ended up walking over 10 miles!
Parliament house was really interesting and the war memorial had some fabulous stain glass windows and mosaics, which are a really nice tribute to all of Australia's fallen service men and women (there was a huge role of honour including all the names of those that gave their lives during both the world wars).
Well, there isn't that much else to do in Canberra so we are now in Sydney! It was another long train journey today, though only 4 and a half hours this time. We're here for a week now and I can't wait to start seeing things tomorrow!
That's all for now. Thanks for all your messages!... If you keep writing, I will!

Send Private MessageWhere are all the people in Camberra then?? Everybody's off to the beach? Wouldn't be surprised.... It looks a very spacious place...
How cold is "cold" there? Here you are missing showers at odd hours and bright sunshine at even hours... :))
Keep on writing, it's really fun! :)
I remember visiting Canberra when I was about 10 years old. It looks about as sleepy now, as I remember it then. I remember asking my parents where all the tall buidlings were! Sounds like you are getting some good excercise there too! 10miles sure is a long way. Have fun in Sydney and take lots of pics, Amanda and I do like looking at them.
Hello you two. Just wanted to say that the Captain Cook memorial fountain looks like the fountain in Geneva.
