Sunset on sunset
Published: October 22nd 2005North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » West HollywoodWe moved to a hotel (wa-hey! towels and hairdryer and coffee and a fridge and TV and Air Con and everything!) on Sunset Boulevard in the fashionable area of West Hollywood (aka WeHo) for the long weekend of Tim's 30th birthday: - breakfast in bed (and strawberries and a poem and a card and a balloon from Emma) - a couple of bottles of California Champagne (we say, "better than the French stuff!") - lobster & steak and dinner at the famous and incredibly cool 'Rainbow Bar & Grill' (where they lived up to their reputation and played Poison and Guns'n'Roses all night) and Tim lived out his rock and roll fantasies! - embarassment at the the famous and incredibly cool 'Rainbow Bar & Grill' as the waitresses brought a large piece of chocolate cake with ... read more

“Now,” her voice was shrill like a mouse. The two guests glanced at one another. “My little shrew, yes, I call her my shrew; she’s a wily one. Most importantly, she has something called Anxiety Separation Disorder, or ASD.” Alarm bells sounded for the two baby-sitters: Most Importantly! Mia and Jane stared at each other. Each sought reassurance, yet found only a pair of eyes filled with pity. Their inner conscience started: Okay, let’s go! Yeah, I’ll race you! “So,” the mother continued, “She usually throws a fit and cries hysterically when I leave, even for the phone. I’m glad there two of you.” Her voice stopped to give meaning. Her beady eyes were held firm by two rosy cheeks pin-pointed with a sharp, arrow-like nose. It curved upward at its end to the minutest degree; ... read more
Don't have time to say much, but i'll update on our day in Guadalajara soon, lots of new pictures on the blog though! Enjoy! OK, so Guadalajara was more than just a day really, we left Sayulita at about 9pm Saturday night and got a ride from Chantel to San Fransisco (8 mins north of Sayu) we caught a bus north up to San Penta (sp?) and here we wandered the town, bought an Agua Fresca and checked out the strip. I bought another beer whilst jord was attacked by his own stomach. Will post a picture of him in the bus station toilete. Oh the aftermath. Caught a 12:15 bus to Guad. and arrived there at 3:54 AM. That sucked. Actually it was 4:54 with the time change. Waited in the bus station half asleep ... read more

All aboard L'Ocean! Cross CAnada train trip starts Quebec City first. I stayed at the hostel right up until check out since I didn't have any last minute errands to run. Well except to buy some snacks for the train but that could wait since the grocery store is right beside the train station. So I checked out. Got my $5 key deposit back and was on my way to the train station to check in one of my bags. Then I headed over to the Atlantic Superstore for some snax...fruit, crackers, buns, a bit of chocolate, a magazine and $20 later (!) I was walking back to the train station. I guess I over did it with the fruit. :) 10:57 Checked out of the hostel and I'm out the door 11:04 I have my ... read more
Whats been really good about this experience thus far has been the people i have met. At Niagara we met a Malaysian born australian couple who we shared breakfast with. They told us that if we called them when we reached Sydney it would be a delight for them to show us around the city. They gave us their contact phone numbers for when we get there and told us to remind them that we met at Niagara falls because they will have probably forgot by then but will always be willing to show us around their beautiful city. I can't wait for this because they seem so nice. Also we met another australian in Toronto who also said that he would like to show us around Sydney so we now have two different peoples willing ... read more
The Subtle Differences.
Published: January 21st 2006North America » Canada » Ontario » Algonquin Provincial ParkThe Canadian summer was a lovely affair what with the late dusks, high 20's, bbq's on chad's/"our" 12th floor balcony overlooking Lake Ontario and the city lights with a bottle of Alaxander Keiths (no v.b. or Carlton over here boys and girls) assuming the position. Chad's unit is in a leafy suburb called Mississauga pronounced "miss-iss-sar-gwar",which is situated at least 15 mins away from where all of the gang related turf war shootings happen, which is nice ! Mississauga is located in between Toronto and Brampton, 25 mins by freeway to either. Brampton has a population of 400,000 and is very similar to Wollongong in size and Toronto has a poulation of 3 million and is very similar to Sydney in size, so I suppose you could say that I live in the equivelant of the ... read more
Would you like me to lapdance?
Published: October 19th 2005North America » Mexico » Jalisco » GuadalajaraSo I had to spend a couple more days at Barre de Navidad than I’d planned to, quarantining myself in my hotel with the shits but it soon passed and I made my way to Guadalajara. You know when I said Mexico City rocked? I think I must’ve meant this badboy! I just had an unbelievably cool week there. The city’s quite modern and alive with music; during the day you can hear it coming from every shop, car and plaza but the place is something else after dark. There’s a couple of hundred thousand students too, so there's plenty of energy around. Found incredible live music almost every night I was there, from Barrio Zumba (a crazy four-piece Manu Chao-esque outfit) to Brazilian reggae to Cuban salsa. I even went to see Israel’s most popular ... read more
We finally got on our way on Monday, Oct 17th - a day later than anticipated. We drove through MD, PA, OH and IN to the final destination for the day: the home of Dan & Cathy Sullivan in Rochester, IN. We pulled into Dan & Cathy's driveway around midnight - a long day's drive, so it was great to have our first stop at a friend's house. They were kind enough to stay up late waiting for us & gave us a warm welcome once we finally arrived. The following morning (Tuesday, Oct. 18th), we got a good look around the area...here's a picture of the Sullivan Farm...he left his home in DC for this??? Actually, Ken and I came across the Sullivan farm on a great bike ride we took through the rolling country ... read more
