Chillin'
Chillin'
This poor panda is homeless, and yet seems to have a smile on its face. It is symbolic of the sights I see here.
Today was quite a display of contrasts: outdoors building a fence to indoors taking appointments; outdoors shooting wildlife photos to indoors at a smokey bowling alley. I loved it. 1. Volunteers Rock! Today, I had the privilege of hanging out at the nearby bowling alley in Diamondhead with the AmeriCorps staff. They meet there every Thursday night to chill and have fun. I was shocked to see some of these 40 twenty-something people walking around with bowling bags! Well, at the bowling alley, I spoke with several people who were so proud of the corp and the young people (high s [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

Shall We Cross?
Shall We Cross?
Mexico and the States, all in one
How the hell did I end up back here? It's hard to pass up an opportunity to cross the border, and the Mexican was the easiest to cross from San Diego, so why not? Tijuana it is. Chris and I met up with Mark in the hostel and hopped into the car moments later. The plan was without a map this time as we figured we could head south until we could drive no further. We had actually read up that it's a better plan to park in the States and walk over to avoid any insurance issues. Unfortunately we missed [View Full Entry]

This adorable dog works hard for his money! Only in Key West! And yes, he is real!!
Ok, I admit it - I am addicted to Key West's key lime pie. I don't care if it's The Blond Giraffe's or Jimmy Buffett's....just give me that key lime pie - please. I think about it when I wake up and don't relax until I have a piece. I am sure I dream about it at night. Maybe they put something in it to tempt unsuspecting tourists. I usually don't go this crazy over food but there is something about this damn key lime pie that is making me obsessed! LOL! Plus we are leaving Key West today -- so [View Full Entry]

The Barn! AKA the at&t center. AKA the SBC center. AKA The home of the defending NBA Champion Spurs.
GO SPURS GO! The San Antonio Spurs V Dallas Mavericks Awesome game. Johnny Ludden puts it better than I ever could: Tony Parker did what he's done all season. Bruce Bowen flung himself at Dirk Nowitzki and every place else. Michael Finley reminded his former team he still has a shot, or three, left. Robert Horry, apparently having heard word of a "big" game, even showed. When they were all done and the 18,797 packing the AT&T Center had quieted, the Spurs had beaten Dallas 98-89 on Thursday night and reclaimed their place atop the Western Conference. A few years ago we stayed at a Best Western in Wilmington, NC near Cape Fear. We love the movie and wanted to see that actual place, plus friends had informed us of how nice the place was in the spring. So stayed there for a weekend. Very nice place. Not much for vegan friendly restaurants even though a lot of people there seem to be into eating healthy. [View Full Entry]

Hana Highway is the most scenic and sickening tour on Maui. It is famous for record numbers of bridges and hairpin curves, made even more fun by sections that are so narrow only one car can drive through at a time. Luckily I wasn't the driver, I had a window seat in a van and could sit back and ... try not to get carsick. Our (excellent) driver/guide from the hostel, Montana, was this awesome burly guy who grew up in Alaska and had tons of great wildery stories to entertain us with when the passing mountains, streams, exotic plants (like [View Full Entry]
