C: Today we woke again in the backcountry of RMNP as Reece has taken to calling it. The sun was already rising high but rain was misting from the sky in parts….I decided to climb the “rabbit ears” as Reece had done yesterday….it was an adventure I didn’t want to miss. The wind was crazy & I certainly questioned my senses and sanity at certain points but after pausing to gain the final bravery to step over small cravass before the last boulder I knew it was worth it. Time stopped (just not the wind). The sun to the east shining [View Full Entry]

This statue stands in front of the Thomas County courthouse. I think it may reprent the town's ties to the civil war.
I've just returned home from an exhilarating five-day adventure in Colby, Kansas. What? It's not the first place on your list of towns to visit before you die? It wasn't all bad. The people were friendly. It was sunny and warm and I took an educational lunch break with a group of fourth-graders to the Prairie Museum, home of the biggest barn in Kansas. What was I doing in Colby, you ask? Well, I've always wanted to go. It's the oasis on the plains and I also heard the prairie museum was not to be missed. In truth, I was offered [View Full Entry]

I took a four day jaunt down to Grand Teton National Park and took a nice three day tour of some of the glacial lakes at the base of the Teton range and Two Oceans lake in the Northeastern part of the Park. Day 1: Two Oceans Lake and Hermitage Point The first day started out very bland and overcast with threats of drizzly doom intermittent thru-out my hike around Two Ocean's lake. The whole day I saw hardly a soul except for the occasional coyote, moose cow, and a whole herd of elk doing their thang out in the willy [View Full Entry]

Why am I home already? I feel so lonely and depressed that I will NEVER sing with this same group of people ever again. The whole experience was incredible. The tour week was fabulous, and our concerts really did get better each night. And every day I got to know different people better, too. So by the end when we were all signing each other's books it took hours and hours until deep into the night because there was so much to say to everyone! I am going to miss these people so much. I couldn't believe when we got to [View Full Entry]

Okay so it's finally starting to settle in now that I have A. FINALLY graduated from college B. Am getting married in a year. and C. I'm going to Europe! It's 2am and I've decided to stay awake all night in order to prepare myself for the time change when we get to Paris. I can't believe I am going to Europe. Never, in my life, did I think that I would be backpacking across Europe; France, Italy and Spain to be more accurate. And it's all thanks to Dave, my fiancee, who is giving me a graduation/birthday present. Pretty nice [View Full Entry]

A little work to get to this lake. Gravel road then a muddy snowmobile trail.
Wow, so the camping trip this weekend was more than we bargained for. Our site was an island in the middle of a channel in a very large lake. None if any coverage from the elements. We had 90km/h winds, rain, fog, hail, thunder and lighting, SNOW, and 4 hours of glorious sunshine. It was a rough go. Fishing wasn;t the best either. Only 4 caught. Almost got lost in the pitch black after picking up Josh and Rob. Our GPS died, but luckily we had spare batteries. Sorta scary when all u have is a pink line and a little [View Full Entry]

Our noses told us we were in cattle country when we stepped out this morning. Continuing east on US 50, we drove past Dodge City, numerous grain elevators, and fields of newly emerged wheat. The first stop of the day was in the town of Kinsley, also known as “Midway City” which sports a sign indicating that it is equally distant from both San Francisco and New York City. In the same roadside park with the sign is the Edwards County museum (free admission) which has a great collection of Americana and even a sod house, all neatly displayed and clearly [View Full Entry]

Day 19: Monticello, UT to Dolores, CO Total Miles: 61 (1267.8mi total) Talk about hard work. We actually managed to get a great place to stay last night near the local cafe and it was a windy night. We got free breakfast at the Comfort Inn because the girl working there was supportive of our ride and let us have it; that was nice of her. Daniel decided to stick around town and get some things done while me and Jess headed off towards Dolores, CO and maybe beyond. Well, beyond never happened. We managed the first 18 miles or so [View Full Entry]
