Město New York je městem ostrovním. Některé ostrovy jsou velké, např. Long Island nebo Manhattan a některé jsou menší, ať už zmiňovaný Rooseveltův či Guvernérův. Proto nemůže nikoho překvapit, že na území města jsou spojnicemi nejen tunely ale hlavně mosty. Na první pohled se jedná o mosty výstavní. Většina z nich je zavěšená na lanech a dávají městu nádech přelomu 19. a 20. století, což je v zajímavém kontrastu k výškovým budovám nejen 20. ale i 21. století. Architektonicky nejzajímavějším a turisty nejnavštěvovanějším je most spojující Dolní Manhattan s Brooklynem. A podle Brooklynu nese své pojmenování. Postaven byl v roce 1875 a od té doby je živou tepnou tohoto amerického velkoměsta. Vystoupíme z podzemní dráhy přímo u paty mostu. Bezděčně objevujeme i radnici, která tu stojí již přes sto let též. Dnešní den jsme zasvětili dalšímu newyorskému jevu. Tím jsou mrakodrapy. A některé mrakodrapy byly stavěné tak, aby poskytovaly návštěvníkům nadhled. Není nic krásnějšího, než za krásného dne vystoupat na vrchol a pohlédnout do krajiny, abych parafrázoval slova nedávno zesnulého Luďka Munzara z pořadu o rozhlednách. První mrakodrap na dnešní cestě, který se nám připletl do cesty, stojí v severní části Manhattanu jižně od Central Parku. Jedná se o soubor budov Rockefellerova centra. Chvíli nám trvalo, než jsme se zorientovali po východu z metra, ale na druhý pokus jsme dorazili ke vchodu. Je příjemné sobotní ráno, hodinky ukazují něco lehce po půl desáté a my si kupujeme vstupenky. Rychlovýtah nás v mžiku vyveze do 67 patra. Zde jsou první vyhlídkové plošiny. New York, a place I would never dream of calling home, but that I enjoy visiting every single time! Imagine, my first visit was back in 1995 and I'm pretty sure I've come to the Big Apple way over 20 times. Every visit is special, but the winter ones are more special as long as the weather is on my side! I'm here for 2 nights. Little last minute change of plans as I got invited to stay the first night with friends in New Jersey. First came the uneventful flight from West Palm Beach to Newark. I rented a car and drove in the dark in the wood all the way to near Morristown. Few towns I crossed look gorgeous and those mansions with Christmas decorations are truly special! So much to celebrate and enjoy during this festive season. In this blog, you will see us celebrating at CELEBRATION (the town that Disney built but does not own anymore), indulging ourselves at a Thanksgiving dinner, enjoying all the friends and places here at Tropical Palms and around, partaking in a glorious Golf Cart Parade…..and much more. Sit back and relax…this may take a while. YAWN! The Town of Celebration is just a hop, skip, and jump from our park. Every Christmas, they decorate their Main Street like a Winter Wonderland. There is an enormous Christmas tree and a skating rink. In the evening, it even snows (soapflakes)! Hey, it's Florida! The entire town looks beautiful as so many residents highly decorate their homes…..some actually hire professional decorators to turn their properties into a beautiful Christmas ... read more

It was a perfect sunny day for a Caddo Native American festival. I arrived and saw that there was large attendance there. The Hasinai tribe of Caddo were very peaceful farmers that arrived there about 700 AD. They started building their three large earthen mounds about 1000 AD and finished about 1250 AD. Around 1300 AD they disappeared. The mound I visited was their burial mound; and the two larger ceremonial mounds were much farther away and I did not walk to or photograph them on this visit. I admire the Caddo, and other Native Americans for living well with nature and not overstressing their environment.
