Did not wake up until arounnd 9am today. We went downstairs to sample the free breakfast at the hotel. Found out that that you gotta get there early.
The weather was great today. Temperature about 27 degrees celcius and clear skies.
First up was Grand Central Terminal. We hadn't gone there last time and I was keen to check out the food court downstairs. Justin had a steak sandwich and I had the strawberry cheesecake from Juniors. Cheesecake is famous from Juniors and I wasn't disappointed. This building is amazingly beautiful. It was Sunday morning so there was not a lot of people rushing about but you can get a sense of what it would be like during rush hour. There is a fantastic mural on the ceiling of the main hall - painted in gold leaf on a blue background. It portrays some constellations that are illuminated with fibre optics. The staircases at either end of the main hall are very grand and provide a great overview of the activities below.
From here we walked west across town to 8th Avenue. Neither of us were hungry at this point, so we parted ways. Justin went to the
International auto show to drool over the cars. He said is was very busy and crowded as it was the last day of the show. But he was able to get up close to a lot of cars that are not available at home. Prices were a lot cheaper too.
I headed north along 8th Avenue, heading towards Times Square. I passed a sign that advertised threading. I had been interested in this method of eye brow shaping for a while. Two pieces of thread are somehow entwined and moved and twisted to remove the hair. It was not nearly as painful as eyebrow waxing and plucking. I am hooked. I was pleased with the result and it cost $7. Wish there were more places like this at home.
I continued on my way and soon came across the Shake shack. This is a popular hamburger place of Danny Meyers' with a few stores throughout the city. I had the opportunity to compare the burgers with those of The burger joint. The shake shack burger was yummy with a great special sauce, but I still prefer the Burger joint for both taste and atmosphere. I waited on line
Shake shack burger
Yum yum - nom nom nom
but not as good as the Burger Joint. in this store for about 1/2 hour before placing my order. Always lines in New York for the good stuff
I was headed to the theatre at 50th St at 8th Ave to see Godspell. This was a great contemporary take on one of my favourite musicals. The ensemble cast were great and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were many humourous references to current day events and the songs were great. I was in the second row and had an excellent view. The show was presented on a round stage and there was not a bad seat in the house. I waited outside the theatre after the show and got an autograph from Hunter Parrish who played Jesus. I was there with all the screaming teens!!!!!!
Justin and I met up again after the show at the Glass House Tavern for dinner. This was a great choice. We both selected from the fixed price menu - 3 courses for $35. This was a lovely little restaurant with great service and great food. I loved the entree of black truffle and mushroom risotto. We both loved our desserts.
We headed back to the hotel and turned on the
tv. New ep of the Amazing race was on and I was set. After that it was the Good wife. It has two more episodes before the end of the season. No spoilers here but boy is that show good.
