Off the Florida Keys, there's a place called Kokomo.
That's where you wanna go, to get away from it all.
Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand.
We'll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band, down in Kokomo.

Aruba, Jamaica, oooouh I wanna take you to Bermuda, Bahamas, come on pretty mama. Key Largo, Montego, Baby why don't we go?

Ooouh I wanna take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast, and then we'll take it slow.
That's where we wanna go, way down to Kokomo.

The Beach Boys immortalized this catchy song, but what most people don't know, is that the song preceeded the bar. That's right, Kokomo was only created when people were in Key Largo looking for it based on the lyrics to that song! And the song is still stuck in our heads now! AHH!!

This weekend we decided to go on an organized tour of the Keys through a free-lance travel agency run by our friend Victor Van Gilst. Although we've visited the Keys numerous times, we always find new things to do and enjoy the experience. This was no exception. We

As seen from Mallory Square
began with a snorkeling adventure in Key Largo where we saw lots of colorful fish darting in and around patches of coral. Then we stopped at Robbie's of Islamorada to feed tarpon (giant fish). Next we drove all the way down to Key West while soaking in as much of the beautiful, jaw-dropping scenery as possible along the way.

Once in Key West, we watched all the performers at Mallory Square (contortionists, fire breathers, escape artists, magicians, etc), had a few drinks, then ended the day with a drag queen show. The next day we were driven around and given a city tour. We stopped at Holiday Isle on the way back to relax at Kokomo. We played in the water and sat on the 3rd floor of a giant tikihut overlooking the area while we sipped pina coladas with rum shot runners.

Great weekend!!
