Thursday April 27th - Part 2 Hello from the city of angels! So we land, get our bags (there are a lot of them now!) and head off to Avis. We end up getting a Jeep Cherokee, and are surprised to find all our luggage fits! Jay programs the GPS with the Beverly Hilton’s address, and we’re off up the 405 freeway to Wilshire blvd. The Beverly Hilton is pretty close to everything, 3 blocks from Rodeo drive, and it’s close to Sunset Blvd. We arrive and check in (again, Jason got this place on price line) and get some help getting our bags up to our room. It’s a pretty nice place, with the beds being really comfortable! We all got showered and cleaned up. Dinner time, lets see if there is an olive garden ... read more

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are officially underway and that's probably the only thing keeping me sane during these crazy last few weeks of school. I probably wouldn't have been able to write about this topic after the (gasp!) 8-2 loss on Monday night. Howeverrr, the 3-2 win tonight has definately put me in a better mood. The NHL has been a part of my life for as long as i can remember. When other little girls said they wanted to grow up and be teachers, ballerinas, or moms...I decided I wanted to play men's ice hockey. Ok, so it was a little far-fetched and it never really happened but I never gave up on being a fan. I absolutely love going to the games! They're always a huge family event with my parents, brothers, cousins, uncles, ... read more

En ... read more

After a restless last night in Buffalo - lots of street noise, ambient light and spontaneous beeping from charging cellphones and cameras, and a roommate who got up at 5am to spend an hour packing before catching her 6:30 train, we set off north east on the dot of ten past ten to check out a certain famous strait between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario - The Niagara Falls. Avoiding the main highway to save on tolls, we meandered along the riverside, through the towns of Towanda and LaSalle, to Niagara, where we hastened straight to the bottom of a 200ft elevator shaft at an alarmingly fast rate - I forget the exact statistic the disembodied voice (of doom?) read out, but it was fast. Ju was thrilled she was able to sweet talk the ticket ... read more

i had been living in a hole for the past eight years. i gained a massive amount of weight eating peanut m&m's, drinking liters of coke, sitting on my ass in filth. drooling, staring into the space between the t.v. set and the computer, i needed an intervention. i decided i wanted to go on a road trip about five years ago...things were particularly bad and getting worse and i knew that if i didnt do something i was going to loose it forever. it being the hold on my anger, depression, sanity and all that shit. i read morbid angel, bohemoth, and krisiun were playing, i thought that if i go see them and it didnt shock my life back to a normal rhythm...i would just get in my car and drive. that day i ... read more

Hey Everyone! We headed to Chicago for a long weekend over Easter with Tara, Daniel and Rock. Daniel is playing for a Rugby club there for a few months so gave us a good excuse to get to the States for a quick trip. Chicago is a great City and we even got sunny weather which was a welcome treat after nearly a year in Dublin! We got to see the Chicago Bulls, the White Sox and the the Black Hawks which was great, they all won too! We spent one day out in the suburbs watching Dans rugby, they had a great win and we got through a few boxes of beer in the sun during the afternoon. I did manage to get a bit of shopping in amongst all the sporting events thank goodness, ... read more

A car show was being held at work today. John and I walked over and took a bunch of photos. It was a nice little break in and otherwise long day. Work has been crazy busy lately so the chance to be out in the sun and with how nice it is out was awesome. We missed getting a look at the 57 Chevy that was there earlier. Which is a shame since I have always loved those cars. but there was still plenty of nice cras there for the kids to check out. Of course what we're really looking forward to is when the chopper comes in at the end of next month. Last year they landed right in front of the school while we were blaring Ride of the Valykries over Johns' sound system. ... read more

Last night I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert in Asbury Park New Jersey. The concert was the last in a four concert series that were deemed “rehearsal shows”. All the money that was profited from the four concerts is going to certain charities and organizations in Asbury Park. For those who are not familiar with Asbury Park, it is a run down and abandoned beach town, which was once a very popular boardwalk and vacation spot years ago. Unfortunately it fell victim to race riots in the late 60’s and 70’s and has not been the same since. Bruce Springsteen is releasing an album covering the songs of folk singer Pete Seger and other folk classics. With a 17 piece band which includes a horn section, viola’s, stand up bass, banjo, organs, and accordions; ... read more

Luke for number six here "put your seatbelt on" is an age-old adage of mothers, and fathers, and grandparents and drivers throughout New Zealand. It is the mantra of McDonalds' "make it click" vehicle safety campaign, and an advertising catchcry of the New Zealand Police, ACC, Land Transport, vehicle manufacturers and those blessed with commonsense (and uncommonsense as the case may be). Long may it continue. It is not an unintelligent or self-defeating force of habit, getting in the car should go part-in-parcel with belting up. I want to add another second-nature string to the vehicle entry ritual. Every time you get into a car hereafter think "belts" and "hey I know 550 people are responsible for my ignition sequence". I know it's wordy and I haven't heard back from McDonalds yet about bolstering its stirling ... read more
