"Would you like something to drink, ma'am?"
Im offered the standard choice of 20- odd beverages, 11 000 m in the air.
A selection of 12 films play simultaneously, alongside 8 different radio channels. A choice of 3 standard meals.
There are 1200 basic ways to define yourself in the Economy class of British Airways fl. 092. I find the limited choice refreshing- you spend less time deciding and more time actually thinking.
Im listening to some Beck on the 'radio' and its really making me want to shed a layer and dance on my seat.
So what led me to this fine aircraft?
About halfway through last semester I hit an intense rough patch. I was gripped by this nagging, churning anxiety mixed with wanderlust and not really feeling alive. It hit pretty hard and all I could think about was how badly I wanted to burst out of Hamilton and just wander... A couple of my friends convinved me that randomly disappearing mid- semester wasn't the wisest of ideas, so I channeled my restlessness into a summer plan.
But it wasnt just wanderlust this time. A prof in this random lecture I went to one day mentioned this idea that: "a spiritual position is one that is held by those who have a deep understanding of the interrelatedness of all things". Im really taken by this desire for understanding, and connectedness to the world. I thought I'd start with a part of the world that I feel the most removed from, which led me to Kenya. "Simba, remember who you are"....
Meg joins me for 2 months , check out her blog at

Keep yourself safe and keep me posted on your adventures! Most of all, be open to where your journey takes you. Inevitably you'll have an epiphany of interconnectedness when you least expect it.
Best, Martha
