“Oh beautiful for spacious skies…” This is what we saw today as we drove through North and South Dakota… America… breathtaking scenery….. fields of yellow, amber, green that went on as far as the eye could see…tiny towns with populations of 100, bales of hay dotting the fields…square bales, round bales…some stacked in blocks or arranged in rows…cows in almost every field…deep blue skies…and when we entered South Dakota…Bison!!!We stopped in Windmere, North Dakota (pop. about 1,000) at a high school field and had lunch. We couldn’t help but wonder how these people live…so isolated…where do they shop...how do the kids get to school...how do they make it through those winters?
Earlier in the day we stopped in Bemidji to see Paul Bunyan and Babe…the guys weren’t impressed but Donna and I were, although Paul wasn’t quite as big as we thought he would be…and when we pulled into Fargo, Frances McDormand (from the movie Fargo) was NOT there to greet us! We ended our day in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Today’s Road Lesson: We wouldn’t have missed this ride for anything!
