Saga of the rental car. We had originally had our daughter setup our rental
car to be picked up in Bristol, TN. That was the nearest place I could find a
rental firm. While confirming our shuttle time, the guy who drives said the
company we were going to use had an office in Abington. People are picked up
right in front of their store all of the time by the firm and we would save the cost
of two shuttles. We called the Abington office. They said we could switch with
no problems or additional costs. I told them to make the switch. This was done
yesterday.
Today when we went to the outfitter to wait for our car to arrive, the clerk
said we needed to call the rental company. Turned out they could not switch
without it costing more money. The two offices are in two different states, with
two different regulations, fees and taxes, the cost would be double our
original. We tried to go with a smaller car, none available! We tried other
companies, more money or not in business any more. After about three hours of
looking we ended up having to get a shuttle to the Bristol airport and getting a
car from Budget. It was a bit more than I had wanted to spend, but we needed the
car and we were not going to miss the graduation.
The drive down to Alabama went uneventful and we arrived at our son’s home at 11PM
EDT. We covered more miles in one day than we have covered in 52 walking days!
The weather during the drive was clear and hot. Atlanta was in the low 90s,
thank goodness for AC!
