Geo: 43.818, -110.706Short note about the stories. We have gotten behind in these stories and so they may be a bit confused but hey the pictures are what is important. As we were getting ready to leave the Colter campground there was the mother fox running through our campsite. We watched her until she had gone out of sight. This was our Teton trip for foxes as this was the mother of the third of the fox families we were lucky enough to see!The rest of the story for these pictures is the birthday celebration at the Jackson Lake Lodge. It is always a wonderful place to sit and watch the sunset and if we are lucky get a glimpse of some animal down in Antelope Flats.... read more

Geo: 43.818, -110.706Up early to check out the wildlife in the early morning. Were lucky and got to see some beautiful elk and an antelope herd. We had been told about more fox kits near the Lupine Meadows turnout. We headed over there and had to wait for them to appear. You knew you were in the right place by the number of large cameras set up and people standing around talking. The foxes that are here are unique. They are called cross fox and this is because they have a darker coat and what appears to be a cross on their back. The father was very dark and some of the young foxes were red and the others were the cross foxes. While we were waiting for the foxes to appear, a pine marten came over to ... read more

Today we begin our adventure at Grand Teton National Park. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were able to see so many gorgeous views. We drove to the south east entrance of the park and you were only able to access a small part of the park. The Ranger suggested that we drive to the north east side of the park where we were able to access 26 miles of road within the park. We were able to drive to Jackson lake which was completely frozen and snow-covered. The pictures are of us actually standing on Jackson Lake with Grand Teton and other peaks in the background. On our way back to Jackson we stopped at the national elk refuge where thousands of elk are spending their winter protected and being fed. It was ... read more

Last night we slept with a mouse. After all, we were in the middle of the woods, so why not get the full experience by sleeping with a wild animal. Most may not think of mice as wild, but I will tell you they are. We stayed in a cabin (basically a hotel room with exterior log walls) at Flagg Ranch again. Right about the time everyone else fell asleep, I heard something. I looked over at the floor and there he was - the mouse, named Lucky via Peggy. I let everyone else know that we had a visitor and we moved a few things around to be sure he did not get into them and that he did not climb in my suitcase and go home with me. That mouse played all night. He ... read more

Before diving into our day, a little background on how this trip came about. This trip is a bit different from my previous ones, for this time the traveling party consists of 4 adults - David (technically my uncle, but to me he is just David), Peggy (David's longtime girlfriend), Linda (my mother) and me (the trip planner). David and Peggy went to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons last summer and wanted to go back. After hearing of the things we saw on a previous trip and some things they missed, they asked if we would go back with them and sort of plan it for them. So me, a person who loves to visit our national parks and is a bit OCD and very much a planner, did just that and here we are - sitting ... read more

Yay! Finally I get to travel alone with my brother to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This was my second big trip of the summer. I was excited not only travelling with my brother, but also to meet my dad's girlfriend, Ania. I wanted to see some animals like bears and moose. I read about Yellowstone on reading plus and it sounded really cool. I was also going to go to country number 61, Canada. It was a long flights and we had a layover in Atlanta, Georgia. It was fun because the trip from Atlanta to Jackson Hole we were the first people on the plane. When we go to Jackson Hole we were the last one's off the plane and my dad was there to meet us holding up his camera.,,,sigh. When we got the hotel ... read more

Day 11- Woke up early to snag a campsite at Jenny Lake in Teton National Park. This campsite is small (~45 sites), tents only, right at the base of the mountains on the lake, BUT it is first-come-first-serve. People get up at 4am to circle around to try to find someone leaving so that they can swoop in on the spot. We slept through our 6:30AM alarm, had to swing past the grocery store, and drive 30minutes and managed to pull into the park about 9AM. Somehow, we nailed a great spot!! One of three available at the time I think. The family before us was still packing up as we claimed it ours and the ranger was really helpful in making sure that no one tried to swoop up our spot. We got settled, set ... read more

Day 14- Left our Jenny Lake sanctuary to explore more of the park. We got a campsite on Jackson Lake in Colter Bay for one night before heading into Yellowstone tomorrow. Spent the afternoon kayaking. Found wifi at the resort bar to update the blog :). Word is that there is no cell service/wifi in Yellowstone, so stay tuned!... read more

Salt Lake City (SLC) – Mormon Capital of the World Having said god bye to the RV we’re once again in Hostel-land. Camelot Inn & Hostel is in a good location to walk into Downtown, it’s reasonably priced but has a unique self - registration and checking out service which operates on their systems online which is confusing for many and rather impersonal. (Their notices promote this as the way top hotels do things; we’re not so sure). The room is really small and can just about hold our stuff but its probably a good discipline as we’ll be living out of a car and camping for the next few weeks. We now begin the next chapter of our ‘US Road Trip’. We make our way into town to explore the delights of SLC. We have ... read more

Tuesday 6.17.14 Up to drive early, off to Yellowstone. It was cool to watch the scenery change and the Rockiest eat bigger and bigger. Drove the scenic byway 16, through big Horn Canyon which was stunning. Sadly a an empty road, as most travelers miss the scenery and sped past into Yellowstone on I90. Stopped at a small town for a bathroom/gas break. Big Horn National Forest was stunning. We also secured a cabin/tent for the night in Grand Teton. A wall tent, if you will; we hav no idea what to expect, but I am excited to be on a spring 'box spring' with 'mattress' off of the ground. Gorgeous scenery, we saw some curling horn sheep almost immediately upon entering the park. We ascending up into the snow capped peaks, and we amazed at ... read more
