I anticipated a long day and I sure wasn’t disappointed. Knowing that, I was on the road right at Sunrise! It was probably close to the longest day of my Trans Am to date. The entire day from Lander was through the Wind River Indian Reservation and they don’t allow camping. So it is by nature a 75 mile uphill day. Unfortunately, my luck didn’t hold out and I had strong headwinds all day. I spent almost 8 hours on the bicycle! However, the good news is that the scenery was absolutely beautiful today and my Cousin Janet met me in Dubois for a late lunch. She also brought me some treats. Lots of good nutrition items from her health food store in Worland called Bee Healthy! She also brought me a T shirt from Lisa ... read more

Monday, 4 September, 2017 We left Grand Tetons this morning in the heaviest haze yet. We were surprised at how thick the smoke was, we couldn't even see the tops of the mountains. We headed east from Moran through beautiful country, but the smoke was so thick it was like looking through a curtain. So, not many pictures. We crossed the Continental Divide at 9600+ feet, hoping it would be less smoky on the eastern side. Nope, still smoky. We drove through Dubois to Longhorn Campground, where we are to meet Tom, Kerry's oldest friend. We arrived early in the afternoon and took advantage of electrical hookups by charging our electronics. We also made a quick trip to the grocery. Back at the camper, I put some potatoes in the crockpot for supper and posted the ... read more

After a couple of weeks in the desert of Utah we were looking forward to getting to the cooler climes of the mountains. The heat was pretty brutal at times, especially when camping but we actually found it ok during all of our hikes in Utah. Our first destination on the slow trip north was Monument Valley, a stunning collection of giant stone monoliths that appear out of the desert for reasons beyond my ken. The weather was a bit ropey and we had plenty driving to do, so we didn't stop for long. We also stopped at Glen Canyon Dam, which is the equivalent of Hoover but at the other end of the Grand Canyon, pretty impressive - the canyons are kinda tailor-made for damming! After several hours of driving across endless stony desert we ... read more

From sunny southern Utah, we headed to snowy Dubois, WY. This real cowboy town is located just east of the Wind River Mountains in northwest Wyoming. A few days into our stay, we woke up to 6 inches of fresh snow. After a few days of really cold weather, we settled in to jeans and light jackets. Our RV park was situated right next to the Wind River. Snowpack this winter was many times the normal amount, so we watched the river carefully, considering it was mere feet from our site. Deer practically lived in our campground. Did you know they eat dandelion flowers? We took several drives along Forest Service roads to see elk, Rocky Mountain sheep, and moose. On several trips, we had to turn back prematurely because of either snow or deep mud. ... read more
