I think that is the official title of the paddling trip. Of course it was really only 4 rivers, we did one river 3 times.
So last Friday was my last day of work, then I immediately left for NC, MD, and WV to go kayaking for the week. There were 4 of us this year: Todd Lasher, Tonya Chaffin, James Proctor and myself.
I'm currently working on the full length trip report for that epic voyage. Not sure if it will get posted here or not. Probably just to the paddling websites.
So here is the summary.
Day 1 -- Robbinsville, NC -- Cheoah for its inaugral (shit this web blogger doesn't have spell check, I'm doomed) release. We were supposed to get 1000 CFS but got 1500 CFS instead, what an unexpected treat. In my opinion the Cheoah only has 5 rapids and its nine miles long. Of course 3 of the rapids are really like 2-3 miles long it seems. Big water, big holes and big fun
Day 2 -- drive to Friendsville MD -- damn long day, we miscalculated and took like 12-13 hours I think
Days 3-5 -- paddle the Upper Yough.... Now I finally feel like I know my way down the river
Day 5 of course WV brewing company for growlers
Day 6 Summersville, WV -- help AW set up for Gauley Fest
Day 7 Paddle the Lower Gauley -- what a long day. I don't remember there being so much flat water. Its amazing how much smaller this river seemed this time
Day 8 Paddle the Upper Gauley and got a serious beat down in Insignificant.
Night 8 -- Gauley fest and party
Day 9 drive 10 hours back to ATL.
Ok I'll work on more later.
