Tacoma is Loren's hometown just outside spacey Seattle. Not to be outdone by Florida's renowned fairground rides, the town became known as the one with the crazieeest and most thrilling ride of all - the
Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridge, which, as if they had hindsight, was nicknamed Galloping Gertie! That link also talks about the latest bridge, but of course the most interesting stuff is about how the first one somehow started to resonate at its natural frequency in the wind and eventually collapse. That was back in 1940 and the new one still looks pretty good:
Loren, in contemplative mood.
Catching up with the folks, and a HUGE TV scenario.
So, just to show that The King has stayed here....the plaque above the door, at the flat where a friend hosted a party on the Sound:
BS'in as they say
Cool party gets into the swing, which was good news since we had two tickets to see Dave Matthews and his band live at The Gorge (this big natural, er, gorge, in the countryside, kind of amphitheatre stylie used by many bands) that day........but it was about 150 degrees and an easy-going party after the previous night's drinking seemed a better prospect.
Ahhhhh, cool beer on a stupidly hot afternoon.....
Playing dunking the women
Party warming up
and up
The sun begins to set, the revellers start revelling
Amazing sunset shots....
