Prior to our journey to Cuba, the Seattle Peace Chorus performed some of the music we will take to Cuba including the composition, Orin Odara, which is a suite for Afro Cuban Orisha of the Yoruban people, featuring soloist Elspeth Savani, directed by Frederick West. Orin Odara was arranged and composed by Fred Hoadley, bandleader of Sonando.... read more

Ok so this morning started at 0430 as we had to check out of our AirBnB by 0500 to catch a cab so we could be at the train station by 0530 to check our bags and clear customs. We cleared customs with no problem and were all the way out to our car on the train when I realized I had left the seat checks on the other side of customs...back I went and after arguing with the customs agents many times (they wouldn't let me back past them nor would they go get the seat checks I could see sitting on their desk) I was finally allowed to go back and get the seat checks before having to clear customs AGAIN...Don't let it be said that CBP doesn't do anything. I then was on ... read more

Good Day to you all, Yesterday was a very busy day, we went to Pikes Market as well as all the other stereotypical tourist things in Seattle such as the Space Needle, the starbucks roastery, fish market etc. After doing all of these things we hopped back in the car, Angie with a piece of fresh salmon in tow to head back to the house. Once there Jennifer and I got ready for date night at The Metropolitan Grill while Angie cooked that piece of Salmon. Jennifer and I went to the space needle that evening and I actually got her to go up the elevator and take pictures up there. After that we went to dinner and had some of the best steaks I have ever had. I will detail more in the pictures of ... read more

Alright so this blog entry is going to be rather short as a lot of our time was spent reading or watching out the window. Watching out the window the pictures will be able to tell that story. I will say that there are a lot pictures of rivers and valleys. We had lunch in the Dining car and we had dinner in the Pacific Parlour Car. I will say that this has been kind of cool having two different places to eat on the train. We arrived 45 minutes early into seattle where we all went to the hotel and showered and slept ready to start the next morning. See Ya Later,... read more

So, I have crossed our great country twice now on the rails. My first trip, the California Zephyr, began in Chicago, and ended in the Bay Area. My second trip, to the last Niners Super Bowl in New Orleans was the Sunset Limited, from Los Angeles to New Orleans. Today, I am departing Seattle on the Empire Builder, arriving in Chicago in three days. I will fly up to Seattle this morning, spend the day visiting friends, and board the Empire Builder at 4:40pm. The train leaves Seattle's Union Station, not far from the Sound Transit Light Rail. It ends in 46 hours at Union Station in Chicago at 4pm, September 1. And I hear the Giants are in town. And I have never been to a Giants game at Wrigley. You think I might find ... read more

Seattle 8 August 2016 We had a 3 ½ hour direct flight from Fairbanks to Seattle losing an hour with the time difference. As we flew into Seattle passing over Vancouver, we saw the 100s of islands spotting the coastline. We arrived on time and got a taxi to our hotel which took 10 minutes!!!! I forgot the hotel was so close to the airport!!!! I guess it is close if it is called the International Airport Hotel!!! Upon arriving just before 8.00pm, we found out that the Space Needle did not close until 12 midnight. We organised a town car who drove us into downtown as soon as we had dropped our bags. The best part about this story is that when we arrived at the Seattle Centre we found that the Chihuly Garden and ... read more

Seattle travel blog Elan, Mark and I once again headed out of town for a concert. This time to Seattle to see Sting and Peter Gabriel together on stage! "Rock, Paper, Scissors" was one of the best concerts ever! We chose to stay at an Air BnB on Capitol Hill. A wonderful choice though a bit noisy. It is on the middle of the city after all. Just around the corner is the most delightful bakery. Brown sugar brioche was so tasty! As well as Elan's smoked salmon croissant. After coffee and pastries we headed to the Woodland Park Zoo. The tiger put on quite a show, preening and stretching on a rock right in front of us before heading off out of the sun and into shade. We saw many different birds, much to our ... read more

Ce matin aucun problème ... read more

Pour votre information, pendant qu'ils préparaient, j'ai ... read more

July 4 dawned cloudy but not rainy. We wish all our family and friends a joyous 4th! Looked forward to more bacon at breakfast but had to settle for sausage instead. Service not quite as attentive as yesterday but the food was fresh and hot and good. Then it was time to repack and relax until checkout. We boarded the Maasdam at 11:30, the first group to embark. Our suite is lovely, actually too large for just two but I'm not complaining. We have a large King-sized bed, a sitting area with an L-shaped couch, two chairs and a coffee table. These is a bar in the corner with an assortment of glasses and a self serve mini bar. We have a dressing room and bath but the best part is the veranda. It is so ... read more
