The best shot before the fog came in
The drive to San Fransisco was long, the longest we've done so far. In all it took about 8 hours but the drive was really beautiful. It's really weird to see the landscape change so dramatically as you drive. So far its been all beaches, sand and palm tress but as we drove further up the coast, the beach just meets sheer cliff face and grassy hills. Palm trees were replaced with beautiful redwoods, and flat plains replaced with farms and plantations. Just really beautiful to see it change so dramatically right in front of your eyes. We finally got to [View Full Entry]

San Fran Bay
Fog

Getting up at 4.30 in the morning when you are massively in sleep deficit was easier than I thought it would be. Joel kindly offered to take us to the airport, and Becky and Tim also surfaced to say another goodbye which was good of them. It was extremely cold outside, about 0 degrees F, and the car's windows had ice on them. We got to the airport in plenty of time, and we said goodbye to Joel who had been a fantastic host all week, and it was great to know we could be such great friends even after fifteen [View Full Entry]

Mom sleeping in the Houston Airport
It is 5 AM and Im eating a croissant and a very bitter latte (maybe the grossest latte I have ever had....THANKS STARBUCKS!) I am currently in purgatory. Not at home and not in Argentina. Just sitting and waiting for a direction. Everyone thinks I left last night, the 18th, for Houston, but guess what? I didnīt. We were so close to getting on that flight. They had put us in first class. Mama and I looked at each other, allowing ourselves on a quick glance because surely if we had said anything we would have been found out (we are [View Full Entry]

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
The Walter Famdamily feeling a little "frisky".
Aloha Everyone! And Mahalo (Thank you) to all of our friends and family that were able to make it to our Washington Wedding Reception in Mukilteo. We had a great time spending time with everyone in Washington and much of this road trip would not be possible if it were not for you. So one more time, Mahalo! Now on to the good stuff. Technically we started this road trip on December 28th as we left Claremont, California and headed North to the land of snow and record-breaking rainfall (Seriously, 35 days and counting). We stayed in Sacramento for a night [View Full Entry]

A Professional Skier
Lake Trillium and Mt. Hood

On Saturday, I'll be flying out of Seattle, arriving on Monday in Sydney (long flight + IDL crossing). It's been a busy 2 weeks getting things ready for the trip (stateside), it will be just as - and probably busier - the 2 weeks in Sydney, getting things ready for the trip. On this side (the US), I've assembled most of the gear, some of the food, packed all my stuff to be put in storage (while I'm away) - so, I guess I'm about ready to leave. Things to be done in Syd, include: pick up the kayak (ordered months [View Full Entry]

The Space Needle and La Quinta
The Space Needle and La Quinta
A view of the Space Needle, pre-New Year's celebration!
Signs have been guiding us all along our West Coast adventure. The moment we got off the highway to enter downtown, a billboard overlooking the thoroughfare announced: Party of Two, Your City is Ready! We arrived in Seattle on the 30th and stayed in our room, gathering strength and energy for our fabulous New Year's Eve blowout at the Space Needle. Taking advantage of the break in driving and sight-seeing, the Boy dexterized on his laptop until the wee hours of the morning. It was early afternoon before we woke up. Hoping the worst of the cold was over, we ventured [View Full Entry]

Yes, I'm still alive, and if you noticed the masthead thing says, "Seattle," you'd be right. I'm in town for another two days and then I go back to Korea for the rest of my trip. I've had a good trip so far, but have taken painfully few pictures, and it just doesn't seem like I've had enough time to do the stuff that I've wanted to do. So, no pics this time, and just a few updates. I haven't many interesting stories from the past couple months...I went to Beomeosa again and got some good pictures again. I joined the [View Full Entry]

As Marce learned this morning, allergies have a funny way of turning into colds. While Marce slept in to recover as quickly as possible, Allen discussed several of his business ideas with Diego. It seems that Diego has saved his piece de resistance - homemade pancakes with real maple syrup! Tara, always the gracious host, steeped a warm cup of Gypsy's Cold Remedy tea for Marce and alleviated Marce's doubts by explaining that both she and Zoe had just gotten over a mild cold days before. What originally was scheduled to be an early morning departure, quickly turned into an early [View Full Entry]

Tas feeding Mei.
Mei (TS) It’s been wonderful to see my 6-month year old niece, Mei, for the first time. Even in the two weeks that we have been here she has grown and changed so much. Those who know me well know that I am not a natural baby person (dogs seem easier to me!) but your own family is totally different. Mei is a beautiful little girl, not surprising when you look at her parents. The only problem is she currently seems to like Noel more than she likes me. I say it’s because he’s got a big face, big nose and [View Full Entry]

In the pub shooting some pool.
Getting to know the family was complete so it was time to get to know the local area. We started with a walk to the local pub. It seems that there is a fear of alcohol in this state. Supermarkets can only sell wines and beer; spirits must be bought from a liquor store, which it seems only open Monday-Saturday 10am-7pm. This is typical of the attitude to alcohol here. We got into the pub at around 1.00pm - there were only six people in. It was everything we thought it would be. Bright neon signs advertising ‘Lite Beers’, men on [View Full Entry]
