Acclimation and Move!
Since we arrived, the weather has been fabulous every single day---cool in the mornings, sunny and 70's to 80's every day, and light until nearly 10PM. We went downtown by Pike Place Market, and had lunch outdoors at Elliott's--finally, great, fresh, colorful, delicious food and warm, crusty bread here in Seattle (I had a sandwich with salmon and salad, Rusty had a taco)! We have been exploring our new neighborhood (Laurelhurst)---one of the first places we went of course was the grocery store. Grocery stores are different in Seattle--they all sell wine, and Safeway has free wireless Internet access! So does the laundromat, and of course, coffee shops which are everywhere. We noticed that people in Seattle are very healthy--lots of people riding bikes and running and that everyone drives a Japanese or European car, in contrast to the middle of the country, where there were mostly pickup trucks and Detroit made cars. People in Seattle are also crazy about recycling here: not just cans/bottles/paper, but also plastic, metal, food scraps and leaves/grass clippings are recycled by the city. People are very friendly, and someone asks almost every time we take Cleo and Bandit out what kind
of dogs they are and comment on their looks. Guess foxhounds are not too common here. We've been taking advantage of the weather by visiting a new park with Cleo and Bandit almost every day. We've seen Mt. Rainier, which is positively amazing. We've also been to the University Village, a very nice outdoor shopping mall, had our first dinner there at Blue C Sushi, where they have the sushi going around on a conveyor belt.
We started work, me at UW and Rusty at Seattle Children's/UW. Everyone at work has been really helpful and kind, and we are really glad to finally be here!
