Waking up and checking out the space needle, I already felt it in my blood - twas going to be a great St. Paddy's Day. So, woke in the morning about 7 am - and headed for Pike Market in downtown Seattle for a Piroshky at the Piroshky Bakery - look it up on google if you are ever in seattle - great spot. I got a Bavarian Sausage Piroshky, Mark got a potato and cheese, and we tore em n half and devoured.
Then, we walked through the rest of pike market, and saw plenty of ENORMOUS shrimp, GARGANTUAN crab legs, COLOSSAL donuts, and...itsy bitsy tiny donuts too. Spread this in with fresh flowers and chocolates and such and you start to get a feel for the Pike market.
Unfortunately, nothing much else seemed to be open, so me and Mark bummed around and then went down to the pier where I took the video above, then hung out in a piratey tourist store for a bit.
Finally, the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) opened at 10am, and Mark made a donation of $5 for the two of us, a solid 16.6% of the suggested donation for two people. We declared someday when we had money we would make a large enough donation for them to name a wing after us. Not sure
Mmm tasty food
and huge huge seafood, and baked goods if we will be fulfilling that obligation in this lifetime though.
In any case, saw some cool art. Here are a few pics of what I took pictures of before a curator told me pictures of all sorts were prohibited as I tried to snap a picture of a Rothko original for my bro Kevin who is a fan of Rothko. Although I obeyed then, I definitely had the audacity to sneak in a picture on my phone on the way out a few hours later and txt it to my bro.
What came over me? Well - the liberty exhibit that was the visiting collection on showcase. I know using a flash can harm pictures n such, but I rationalize that if I am just capturing the light and not producing any flash, I'm not causing too much harm.
When me and mark came across a kids corner, we quickly let loose our inner child and dressed up in the available costumes.
Soon though, it was time to move on to greener pastures, it was St. Paddy's day after all.
As we walked towards Fado's Irish Pub and the Seattle Underground Tour we were

in the seattle art museum, mark insisted i get a pic of this rat solicited twice by do-gooders - first a pair of lady's proposing that we spend $22 to feed a child for a month, to which I callously replied I was currently homeless, but that someday I would do my part again. I ended up feeling guilty about not throwing down that $22 bucks, but as I'm currently starting a diet of ramen and pinto beans, I will continue to rationalize away my greed by calling my pretending to only be spending on what I really need (like tons of Guinness apparently). In any case, the thinking of third world children starving bit was a bit depressing and all, but our next run in was pretty humorous.
As we walked by this fellow, he asked if we were interested in some GreenX charity - Mark took the lead and said no thanks - as we kept walking the guy asked if we cared about the environment- Mark stated: "Not at all" - which stunned the poor fellow quite a bit, and I almost told the fellow mark was just joking, we had enjoyed nature the day before and both cared...but I left it up to mark, and I can't quite recall
first 20 ozs of Guinness
Guinness for Strength...or impaired judgment at least. what he said to assuage the environmentalists outrage - all that I can vividly remember now is the look on the fellows face, which, unfortunately, I don't have captured.
Anyway, after we got to the underground at around 11:54, we bought tickets to the 1pm tour as mark was hungry and I was thirsty. Thus, Mark grabbed some pizza and we headed to Fado's and had our first Guinness of the day. Arriving back at 12:50, as we chilled in the "historical bar" that serves as the kickoff to the tour, the guide stated we could grab some beverages if we wanted - we would have 20 minutes to drink them, but then no bathrooms for the 90 minute walking tour. Me and mark eyed each other, I said-- "It is St. Paddy's day" - he needed no further convincing, and he was soon sipping his $3.50 12 oz bud light while I downed a full pint of a delicious local stout for an extra 50 cents that had some deep chocolate tones to it.
Our tour guide also had a second suggestion while we waited - talk to z folk around you. And thus we obliged and
A mighty big Guinness
and you know you're in trouble! met Luce (pronounced lucy) and Tiffany, two fellow travelers who had met in their Hostel this morning and were also just as it so happened, headed towards china town after the tour. The tour itself? Scenery, negative two, comedy from the vibrant Gale the tour guide, a solid twelve on a ten point scale, balancing out the tour to decent. Except for one tiny detail. After downing 20+ ounces of guinness, then another pint, both mark and I seriously needed to find a bathroom for some relief. However, the only one on the tour was tortuously placed out of reach for us to look at and long for...and not use. Cruel cruel world. Needless to say, as the tour ended and we were dumped into the "buy crap commercial tourist pit" at the end of the tour, me and mark told our new acquaintances that yes indeed, chinatown sounded great, but we both had to run for the toilet at the moment.
Ah sweet relief.
Onwards - chinatown wasn't anything too special, but we did have some "Dim Sum" or some other chinese phrase that I can't recall that Luci taught me which meant tiny snacks, and they

from left to right - anchi - mark - luce - eh, beer happens - me - tiff were delicious. We meandered and chatted, grabbed some crepes, etc etc, then headed towards happy hours.
This picture of me with the huge Guinness to the right is one of our earliest happy hours stops. We made quite a few. Needless to say, the rest of the night was somewhat of a blur of sake, Guinness,, chicanery, and at one point, 6 Starry Nights (tasty shots, but maybe not quite worth the $9 a crack?!?!? i knew we were in trouble when i saw waiters with ties) - and moreover, I knew I was in trouble when I said "Well lisa (to luce)...rur ro...fortunately I wasn't alone in my inebriated state - unless Tiffany, Mark, and Luce like to ride three to a pig sober (refer to picture).
End of the day, what do I call a night such as that...well..only one word really...Success.
and
Happy St. Paddy's Day!
