We have just had 2 great, busy days! Yesterday after breakfast, we headed to Seattle with Cindy, her boyfriend, Rick and his daughter, Maddie. Just the drive alone was fun & interesting. Rick was driving our truck, Larry in the front passenger seat with Cindy, Maddie & I in the back seat. Cindy was Navigator & Captain, and Rick aptly addressed her such! LOL I have gotten some great pictures of Mt. Rainier. It really looks like a mountain floating in the sky. We first went to Pike's Public Market, as we were told by everyone that you can't visit Seattle without going there. What a great place to people-watch...jammed packed with all sorts of people. We saw the famous "flying fish" market. What a riot that place is, and those guys are on their feet! ... read more

Well, we finally arrived at Cindy's in Puyallup, Washington yesterday around 3:00pm PST. We chilled out & waited for Cindy to get home from work. We sat & visited for a while then went down to the ocean and had dinner. Then to bed. We left Ellensburg yesterday around noon. The drive was beautiful, but windy. I will upload photos. We saw a couple of elk and alot of beautiful snow capped mountains. We saw a huge military convoy. At one point we had to shut off our cell phones because were travelling through a dynamite blasting area. It was a bit unnerving, but it ended up not being that bad. There was a traffic jam, going in the other direction which we were thankful to have not been in. We are very excited to be ... read more

Day 1 - Sunday May 16th Left Spokane 12:30ish, goal = Spanaway WA. Stopped several times, letting Daisy run. Started raining before Cle Elum, then just past Cle Elum traffic slowed to a crawl. Finally passed a Surburban with a u-haul trailer that had jack knifed and looked like the trailer had landed on the roof of the suv. Appeared all to be unhurt, they were gathering backpacks and the u-haul had stayed locked even though it was smooshed good. Traffic picked up again. Arrived Puyallup, called cousin - sorry dates mixed up and other CA friends over. Re-arranged to stay another night and meet them Monday eve. Monday bought new "house" batteries for RV.... read more

August 26th 2008

I arrived back in Washington on Saturday afternoon, greeted by my parents, after an amazing and thrilling week in Europe. The last few days in Antalya were memorable, as I said bye to the people that I have come to know and love there over the summer. I wrapped up my contribution to the social skills arts and crafts project, which turned out to be a success despite the original plan falling through. The team from the DR, and the staff/children at the rehab center had a blast making crafts and playing with the children. It was beautiful to see the exchange of love and care take place across the boundaries of culture, language, and difference in intellectual, physical, and social abilties. We introduced new crafts such as making playdoh and gak, to the kids and ... read more

I was getting all sentimental again yesterday when I was running, listening to this song by Late Tuesday called "I Must Go" about leaving the place I'm at and going on a new road. You can buy it on Itunes for a buck and listen to it. It is the theme song for the year I decided. So much transition! Here's an update I wrote today: Since I’m going to Uzbekistan tomorrow, I figured I’d better do some research on the country. I read a bit about it on Wikipedia, and here are some interesting things I learned. Where is Uzbekistan? It is one of two double landlocked countries in the world. This means it is completely surrounded by other landlocked countries, including Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghaniztan. It used to be part of the ... read more

May 3rd 2008

So, after the past few months in AK absolutely soaking up the newness of a snowy frozen place in the arctic, I have returned home to debrief and pack for these upcoming trips. The day I got back I attended the wedding of a friend in my occupational therapy class at UW. It was wonderful to see my classmates again and reminece old times from school. I did get the joy of a shower of a classmate’s red wine in my eye, my hair, and all down the front of my red (luckily) dress, out on the dance floor! No harm was done after the sting went away. I visited my brother, and my friends courtney and megan in seattle. After only speaking to people on the phone, nothing compares to seeing them in person! Had ... read more

May 2nd 2008

I’m new to this whole blog thing, but we’ll see how it goes. A week ago I was treasuring my last days in Alaska with a wonderful community of people I have come to know and love in the past year. To back track a little, (I’ll try not to elaborate too much), I recently finished my Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. During the first few months of the program in Fall 2005 we were encouraged as students to begin to think about where we would like to do our two 12 week fieldwork rotations. Knowing I wanted to travel somewhere for at least one of them, I came across Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in the file drawers when searching for possible locations. On July 1 last summer I found myself in Fairbanks, AK wondering where the ... read more

September 8th 2007

We went on Saturday to the state fair called Puyallup Fair (pronounced pew all up). The fair is on from the 7th till the 23rd of September. When we left the house in the morning it was 58°F and when we arrived at the showground 45 mins later it was 68°F. It was a scorcher, not a cloud in the sky. The fair itself is a mixture of animal shows/displays, rodeo and and big fair with bungee jumping rollercoasters etc. We wanted to see the rodeo and a thing called Mutton Bustin'. Mutton Bustin is where kids under 6 and 60lbs ride on the back of sheep and try and hang on for more than 6 seconds. It, to me, just seems wrong, but it is incredibly funny to watch. I got some video footage which ... read more
