Map Notes:

Unless you have on-board internet connections, wifi is in short supply for cruising boaters We gather like honey bees at dockside hot spots. We're taking an early morning oppportunity to get our blog launched before casting off for the ICW.

The trip so far has been 'busy' but the pace should ease up on this next leg. We will share some of the experiences of the earlier days later on.

It's cloudy but fair in Norfolk. The day is in full swing for the towns folk. We're at the harbour, facing a massive Portsmouth drydock and boat-building facility.

We used this time in a big city centre to shop for and install new house batteries. Our old ones were slow to recharge and we realized they were doing well for 7+ years old.

The commuter ferry between Norfolk and Portsmouth makes a great bargain trip for $3.00 return. we had a nice stroll down the historic Main street in Portsmouth and a great choice of restaurants for our seafood dinner.

Both sides of this traditional twin city show wonderful urban renewal. Great places to stroll and meet friendly folks.

MELODEON of Halifax
With a crew of 3, Frank, Chris and Ginger Bear, MELODEON left Fraser Park Marina in Trenton, Ontario, Canada in 2009. Like many aquatic snowbirds heading south, MELODEON voyaged through the Erie Canal, the Hudson River, the Atlantic ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway until reaching sunnier shores in Florida and the Bahamas . 2011-12 is MELODEON's third cruising season, with the last two trips spent lingering in the sparkling waters and peaceful havens of Grand Bahama Island.... full info

Norfolk displays a variety of decorated mermaids, which seem a little more decorative than the moose of Toronto.

Hooray, you've connected
Hi Chris and Frankie! Great to know you're underway and healthy. Today we heard that the east coast of the states had a shut-down of its air traffic control system again. Good thing you're on water! Looking forward to more pics and news. If you need anything, I'm happy to oblige.

Hi Guys! Just letting you (and anyone else who reads this message) that I am working for McMarten's Travel Agency now - contact 613 305 0947. The owner, Sherri, is great and really takes good care of her customers. She'll be checking my work for the next few months and I get to sit in her office and take notes a few afternoons a week. It's a great opportunity for me and a big step in the right direction for our future plans! Love you! You guys are looking great and it looks to be somewhat warmer where you are too. Elizabeth
