I used to live in upstate New York near the Finger Lakes region and never went to any of the Wineries. However, I did not miss taste testing the wines at the local wine shops. My wife and I now live in Northern Virginia and had the opportunity to visit a Winery in Leesburg, VA. The Northern Virginia wine trail made it difficult to choose due to the many choices. I did some looking on the internet and came across Willowcroft Farm Vineyards. We particularly liked this one because the setting includes an old Farm with gorgeous views of the Shenandoah mountains. Some wineries are very commercialized. Willowcroft produces red, white and rose wines that are a feast for the senses. You can do event taste testing which includes other featured wines for about 9 dollars ... read more

At the airport now. They just boarded a United flight for Shenendoah, VA. Who flies there? how could it not be faster to drive, instead of going through security and waiting at a terminal? Regardless, we are definitely excited for the trip and will try to update as much as possible!... read more

Here is my first blog before I head to Spain to make sure I can get this right :) Wedding time! I went to a wedding in Leesburg with the Bailey clan. Ms. Abigail got hitched!!! It is exciting. I was able to stay with the Bailey's and enjoy the wedding. I also stayed with my dear friend Joy Bailey-Badillo and her husband, apparently my twin because we think alike! It was great fun. The rehearsal dinner was a cook out at a farm just outside of Fairfield. The wedding was simple and sweet. There was dancing, and most definitely some funny pictures of me. ... read more

True stability results when presumed order and presumed disorder are balanced. A truly stable system expects the unexpected, is prepared to be disrupted, waits to be transformed. -Tom Robbins Well, faithful readers, I'm back. As always, I sincerely apologize for the long delay, but I assure you that this entry will be worth the wait. You see, as my constant companions through my trials, tribulations, and totally awesome experiences (alliteration notwithstanding), I feel as though I have come to know you nearly as well as I hope that you know me. As such, my next announcement may come as somewhat of a shock to many of you. If you're not sitting down, maybe you should be... I have signed a 12-month lease in suburban Leesburg Virginia with a full on apartment complex, and I an hourly ... read more

Ok well, i leave this friday. Honestly pretty freaked out about it. I still haven't truly gotten used to the idea that i'll be 5,000 miles away for 8 whole weeks. And right now the biggest source of the butterflies in my stomach is the trip itself; ain't never been in an airport since 1995 with my family. this is going to be a trying experience, finding my way alone through three different airports in 24 hours. (Side note: i will have set foot in 3 national capitals in one week, having just been in Washington this saturday and making a stop-over in London. Getting into dulles, finding my gate and plane, getting my bags taken care of, getting groped by the security men and finally making it to my plane are really things i have ... read more

Dave and I fixed my car this morning (fuel leak) and then decided to take a bike ride to a town called Leesburg.  There was a really nice trail that we took.  7.5 miles to Leesburg.  When we got to Leesburg, we stopped for a sandwich at the really cool italian deli called Pruccio's or something.  The owner was very italian and a really nice guy.  Then we rode our bikes back to Dave's house in Ashburn.  I mowed Dave's lawn.  This is the first time that I used a lawnmower.  Can you believe that?  We had chili dogs for dinner that we grilled.  We ate out on the deck and enjoyed some good food and good conversation. I will be leaving for Colonial Beach, Virginia tomorrow morning to go to HP works to get my ... read more

Tomorrow my journey starts. It’s been almost two years since I first thought of making this trip, and all the preparations have come to an end. My bags are packed, my route is planned and my bike is ready. I’m probably as ready for the trip myself as I can be, having ridden 700+ training miles this summer. I’ve been talking about the School of the Americas for almost four years now, and I’ve contacted Quakers all along my route, letting them know when I’ll be coming through town. I’ve been promising my friends and family for months now that I would post my route, and I do so now with an open invitation to any and all to join me. If you find yourself thinking, gosh Wes, I can’t keep up with you, you’ve been ... read more
