Last night was a pretty cool night,it was down to the lower 30's, for someone who lives in Florida it was almost like winter, but I had a nice thick blanket and a queen size bed, those provided me a good night sleep. The sun came out and the temperature gradually rising to the mid 60's in midday, so I decided to rent a bike and take it on the ferry to Port Kent in NY just cross Lake Champlain, I thought it was a good day just to bike around and do whatever I felt like to along the way. I went to a big bike rental place in downtown Burlington and it costed me $25 for 24 hours, not too bad consider there are so many tourists in town looking for bike rental.
The Lake Champlain Ferry Ternimal is just down the road from the Bike rental store, it costed $8.75 for R/T with the bike. While I was waiting for the ferry arriving, I chatted with a few folks from North Carolina, they seemed like drive all the way up to Vermont to see the foliage although I think there are many beautiful places in
western N.C near the Smoky Mts are great for leave peeping, however a road trip to Vermont would not be a bad idea especially they are retirees have much time to enjoy it. It took about 45 mins to get to the NY side and the ferry was not really packed which I liked so I could have a better spot to enjoy the scenery. The weather was nearly perfect, just a bit breezy on the ferry , so mnay people actually bundled up including me, from a distance I can see the Adirondacks in NY, the trees started to turn into bright colour, it is rather pleasant to see the mountains surrounding the lake while on a slowmoving ferry. On the ferry I met a young couple from Penn, they seemed like camping and backpacking like me, so we had some stories to tell each other killing time on board, it is the essential part of traveling alone, you just can almost start conversation with anyone, especially when they know you traveling alone they pay more attention to you and your stories. I asked them to take a few pictures for me and I will post a few on
here.
Port Kent is here!!!! where is the downtown Port Kent? In fact there is no such thing,Port Kent is like a 20 houses comminity, I was wondering where they get to shop and eat, maybe they have to take the ferry to Burlington once a while to enjoy some "city" life? Since there are nothing I would like to see in Port Kent, so I rode the bike uphill to see what I could find. A couple miles from the ferry dock, there was a wildlife trail so I locked the bike near the trailhead and hiked along. There was no one but me there at that moment but I fully enjoyed being alone in the woods. Listening to the sound of the owls and making noise stepping on the dead leaves, I almost thought you own that place until I saw the sign" Private Property, Do Not Entre" had I realized that there are someone else here too :), The hiking trail was well marked and there were just a few minor ups and downs, until I reached to a muddy pond, it was too deep for me to cross over and I decided to turn
back and to catch the ferry.
For dinner I stopped by a new restaurant called Adriana,I had to wait for 30 mins for a table. Food there was ok, just a bit overpriced like others on Church street, but the service was even worse, could not believe that I spent $50 for that kind of service!!! What did I eat there? Hmmm Mussles fot starter, then a glass of red wine and NY strip, no dessert since the waiter never mentioned any of them and I just wanted to leave.
