After 50 years, my Aunt and Uncle were selling their home in Vermont and moving to North Carolina (of all places) in order to live near my cousin. I actually lived here as a todler, but I hadn't been back since high school. I'm pretty happy to report that Vermont remains beautiful and idyllic.
Mom and I flew into Boston Logan, then were supposed to transfer onto a Cape Air puddle jumper to Rutland. Unfortunately, there was a big ass storm and FORTUNATELY due to said big ass storm, they cancelled our flight. So we took a bus from the airport to Exeter, NH where a door-to-door shuttle arranged by Cape Air was waiting to take us to my Aunt and Uncle's.
We spent the rest of the afternoon catching up and making dinner. Rutland is a big town - not a city, but definitely not what you envision a New England town to be. There's a significantly-sized commercial center with mid-rises with a mini-mall directly across the street. Basically, there wasn't much to do in terms of sight-seeing, and we weren't there during the turning of the leaves or ski-season.
So the following day, to my Aunt's
annoyance, we decided to drive into "hoity-toity Woodstock". Woodstock is a gorgeous little New England town, with a town crier, town square and lots of cute, small businesses. We grabbed lunch at Allechante, visited the Saturday farmers' market and I stopped by The Start House to pick up a bicycle jersey for Eric.
The next day, we met up with some friends and visited the local Chinese buffet. Then we stopped by the Asian import wholesale warehouse, where we picked up 80 million reusuable grocery bags made out of Indian Saris. Who knew Vermont has this much exoticism to offer?
The following day, Mom and I decided to head into Manchester to visit the outlet stores!! The outlet stores are AWESOME - Burberry, TSE Cashmere, BCBG, Betsey Johnson, J. Crew, etc. Needless to say it was a good day.
We spent the following day helping my Aunt around the house and catching up on family gossip (there was alot of gossip).
The next morning, I sadly boarded my flight to BOS from the Rutland airport, and got to ride that damn puddle jumper after all. Its a short fun ride, if you've never done it before
and I totally recommend it. Thumbs up, Cape Air.
