We started the day with a visit to an ophthalmologist. Nancy's right eye was having a change in vision. There were little hairlike strings floating around and flashes of light on the right edge of her peripheral vision, both symptoms of a possible retinal tear. So, to rest our minds, we went to the doctor. After a VERY thorough exam, he assured us that there were no tears and that everything was fine. This is the part we hate to hear: "As a normal part of aging..." the gel in the eye gently pulls away from the retina, causing these symptoms. He said they would go away in four to six weeks. If they don't go away, it's okay, the brain would learn to ignore them. If they get worse, see an eye doctor again in case it IS a tear then. Also, go back for a check-up in about a month just to be on the safe side. He gave Nancy paperwork for the next doctor since we are unlikely to be back in Bennington. Whew! What a relief!
Then we went to breakfast. Nancy had pumpkin pecan pancakes and Rich had a big western omelette in a restaurant called
Full Bellies. We surely had full bellies. To celebrate the ease of stress, we went to a little corner store that had wonderful meat and pies. We got a big steak, some delicious Vermont cheese, a Fruit of the Forest pie, and we actually found our favorite beer in the whole world that we thought could only be bought in Wisconsin -Leinenkugel's. Yay! What is a Fruit of the Forest pie, you ask? I think they put whatever they have at the moment and then they don't have to change the name of the pie each day. Ours had blueberries, apples, rhubarb, raspberries, and strawberries. We took our treasures home, and then went out to go leaf-peeping again.
At the service station, the doors to the restrooms said, "Diesel" and "Ethyl" which we found humorous. Is this too much potty humor for you all? On our way back, after some fabulous "peeping", we stopped at one of those antique malls where there are a hundred little booths and more collectibles than antiques. It was fun to wander around, though. Then we went back to our little house to enjoy our steak dinner, our beer, and our pie a la mode.
We slept with happy tummies.

I love all that you send, including the diesel & ethyl potty humor. I had the same eye problem, Nancy, and it did go away. Oh what a glorious gourmet you are feasting upon.... as colorful as the scenery, pleasing to the eye and pallet! - Sheila
