OK. First, a confession: When I posted the first entry here and called it “56 days to go…” I was wrong. Apparently, in my excitement, I jumped the gun a little and miscounted. But this time, I’m sure of my dates, and now it is 7 days to go. Really.
Preparations have continued! More reservations have been made, more email confirmations have been received, more credit card transactions have been processed, and a pile of items has begun to collect in my open suitcase.
I had the great pleasure of giving my mom a tetanus/diphtheria booster, a polio vaccine, and a dose of Hepatitis A vaccine. (She also got her typhoid vaccine, but that’s an oral med.) I bought travel medical insurance for us. I’m so excited - I haven’t had health insurance in almost ten years, so I’ll enjoy the idea that I’m covered for the duration of this trip. I just hope we’ll have no reason to need it!
Our passports contain at least one visa, and my iPod contains some downloaded language lessons. And mom
still doesn’t know our destination!
While I have entertained myself planning the trip, she has entertained herself wondering where we might be going. She claims to have no idea, and I think she’s right. All she knows is that it will be warm there. All I know is that time is flying by and I’m happily looking forward to a new adventure.
I will spend the next week making sure I leave everything in the best possible order at work, calling the bank and credit card companies so they don’t lock down my cards when strange charges from foreign lands start to show up, and packing/unpacking/repacking as I try to find the perfect balance of packing light while not forgetting anything we’ll really need.
One week from tomorrow, we will leave on a 6:00 am flight out of Burlington. I already know from past experience that I will spend the night before waking suddenly every 45 minutes in a panic that I’ve overslept. I also know that once I’m on the plane, all anxiety will evaporate and vacation will begin for me while we’re still on the tarmac. (I’ve been known to fall asleep before take-off.)
We’ll update whenever possible along the way. For those who don’t know where we’re headed, aren’t you curious???
