MOAB Have spent the past two days in Moab, small population and dedicated to mountain biking, mountain off roading and rafting. A few interesting stores and little else. The rest has been partially rejuvenating, but the extra day in such a single dimension town, in a small hot room seemed a little excessive. Also because room so small we locked our bikes up on the back balcony out of general view. However some thieving person removed my Revelate seat bag and contents being two tubes spanner and multi tool and two cans of chain lube. $220+. Will Need To source some tyre levers before leaving town. Not Happy. Now the bikes are in the rooms which makes for access difficulties. MOAB to DEVILS CANYON. Section 5 CANYONLANDS STAGE 52. Day three dawned early and fresh with the temperature around 0 degrees and we had breakfast at the very nice Best Western Hotel in Bryce Canyon City. It was a typical western style hotel with wooden beams, stuffed animal heads and home-cooked food. The staff were friendly and the rooms were large and comfortable. We set off for Bryce Canyon National Park not really sure what to expect having had a brilliant experience in Zion yesterday. On the drive to the canyon we saw some deer and a couple of birds, which is pretty much the extent of the wildlife experiences we have had so far. The desert is devoid of life. We arrived at the Canyon and walked to the rim only to be met with an absolutely breath-taking scene of columns sandstone as far ... read more

After breaking camp at Devil's Canyon we drove the motorhome south to Gooseneck State Park. There we saw the Colorado river cutting its way through the canyon floor. We off loaded the motorcycle in this remote park and left for a 100 mile round trip into AZ to see Monument Valley, deep in the Navajo Nation. After returning to the motor home, (Maggie was frantic as we were gone for 4 hrs) we loaded up and drove north along scenic route 95. We entered the canyon floor of ancient rivers with side walls over 1,500 feet. The colors were spectacular and around every turn the landscape was more impressive than the last. We crossed lake Powell in the upper end of Glen Canyon National Park. We drove past a massive Capital Reef with 1,000 foot rock ... read more

Hi blog followers, today we stayed in Monument Valley, Utah. What an amazing place. I think this is the most photgenic place so far. The rock formations are fantastic. We parked in an RV park that was up in the canyon and owned by the Navajo Indians. Great place, prices too high ($3 to do a load of laudry) but clean and well kept. We drove the self tour through the monument valley and it was well worth the effort and cost of $5.00. The pictures do not do it justice. Amazing. It was a little 4 wheeling, but fun. The weather was hot and didn't cool off too much during the night. During the self tour there were places set up to buy local Indian jewelry and pottery. It was a good day.... read more

March 22,2011 Mexican Hat Utah to Cortez , Colorado After giving Monument Valley a good looking over continued to Mexican Hat , Utah and although I had considered making a short day of it wasn't very impressed with Mexican Hat and so made the rest of the day into a "driving day" and drove on to Cortez, Colorado. Southeastern Utah was very scenic though and I stopped and took pictures ot the Valley Of The Gods from the road, and then pressed on to Colorado. I Pretty much pressed on to Cortez and checked into my motel at the Budget Host for $46.84 and called it a night after eating my dinner of a microwave baked potato and whole wheat bread with tea. I could pretty much hear what my neighbors said through the walls but ... read more

Just loving this road trip! Kicked off the day with the promised chopper flight over the Grand Canyon. Spectacular!! Perfect Day (bit windy that later became a hurricane but OK for the flight) - loverly clear sky. Then on the road to Monument Valley and surprised that the trip out followed the Canyon for 60 miles so more vistas (and different) to take in. The wind came up just as we crossed the Little Colorade River - at an Indian trinket stop site. Nice guy - Viet Vet. went to Melb and Sydney on R&R - (most have never heard of Melbourne.....) Arrived in Monument Valley to a Gale - but still magnificent vistas. The hotel here The View - aptly named - is on the Navajo reservation. Trip Adviser has come thru again. No alcohol ... read more

The tour of Monument Valley, a seventeen mile loop over ungraded gravel roads, took about 2 hours. The monuments are great too look at and if you have ever watched a western, The Eiger Sanction, Back to the Future 3 or even Forrest Gump, you have seen a part of Monument Valley. We did take a short round trip back to Four Corners (200 miles) as we were told that it was open Friday through Sunday. What she didn't say is that the monument itself is underconstruction and was not accessible. We would not have bothered. Instead, there were over 50 Navajo craft vendors there. Very disappointed. It is Navajo territory so I will assume the best intentions. We did take a couple pictures of the construction. We drove through Mexican Hat on our way to ... read more

I found a ride to move from the farm in Denver to Portland with Mr. Sam. We went through a bunch of parks including: Arches - full of people with cameras but has some beautiful formations that made my insides breathe deep. Slept cowboy style out on the rocks with the numerous stars above me. Watched sam fire dance here a few nights and Helena and i played in the sand during sunset Canyonlands - see what erosion looks like after so many years. Chatted about life plans with Helena while looking out on what time looks like. Bridges - great day hiking. i learned many of the uses for native plants while i was here and collected things for dyes and eating. Old cliff paintings and native homes tucked into the rocks. Gooseneck - went ... read more
