Great Colors
near Bryce Canyon area We left Ely, NV, driving east to Great Basin National Park. The visitor center is at Baker, but 4 miles up the road is the visitor center for Lehman Caves, which used to be a National Monument, but is now included in Great Basin Natl Park. At the Lehman Caves visitor center we left Bob and Gena’s rig and our camper and drove up the Wheeler Peak Road in our van. The road was pretty steep and winding, but the views were magnificent. The valley below and the mountains all around were colorful and amazing to see.
After picking up the campers we continued on into Utah, now on Hwy 21. This road could have qualified as the loneliest road; I don’t think we saw half a dozen other vehicles in more than 70 miles. As we neared the town of Milford we saw red and blue lights coming our way. We were passed by the Fire Chief’s car, an ambulance, Fire and Rescue and a couple of Sheriff’s Dept. cars. About 15 miles later another car from the Sheriff’s Dept passed. We found out later it was an accident way west, almost to the Nevada line.
At Beaver
long road
leaving Ely, NV we got on I-15 and drove south 2 exits to Hwy 20 east to Hwy 98. Hwy 20 was another beautiful mountain/valley road. This one only had one 2 mile stretch of steep downhill (a short clench for Kerry.) We drove 98 south past the road to Bryce Canyon (alas, not this trip) to Glendale. All day we have driven through ever-changing valleys and rugged mountains of varying colors. I do love Utah, but we are ready for some green scenery.
