Ryan & AnnFrom left, my aunt Ann, Barbara's husband Davis, Patty's son Ryan and Uncle Warren
The girls came over fairly early Saturday. After much coffee drinking, we decided to ride to down town Wichita Falls to a resale place they like to browse. I picked a book entitle "Maine Lingo" up off the shelf and it was signed in the front by my cousin John Sjstrom, 1980, Farmington, Maine. He also lives in Texas, but is now a bit of a recluse, my mon doesn't even bother to try and visit him any more. It was very odd to find the book though, I didn't want to haul it all the way back to Maine and was glad my cousin Patty purchased it.
We had lunch at "Cracker Barrel" I'd never been to one before. An odd kinda retro place with all sorts of old crap hanging off the walls; farming tools, license plates etc. They had a gift shop as well and also sold "old time" candy, or at least candy that's not available most places in the south. There was some of it, like Necco Wafers that we still have at home. The girls told Brian he had to have Chicken Fried Steak, so he did. I tried a sampler. It all pretty
good, but not the lightest of fare.
Back at Warren's I was a bit tired and ended up taking a nap. Warren was cooking brisket. Anne made pinto beans, which I've had canned before, but never homemade. They're quite a bit different than New England baked beans. Not so sweet and she made them with some ham hock and bacon. That night the girls we all there with salads and such. It was all very good. The girls children came over as well. I meet Patty's Ryan and Ross; Christy's Alex and Barbara's Ashley. A few of the kids I'd met when they were little and Christy brought them to Maine shortly after her husband died. The kids are all about my kids age and very nice. We mostly visited and some of the kids played rummy with Ann. They love to try to beat their grandmother at it.
