Planting Posts
The Bobcat was a big help
Yesterday we planted posts after clearing around a mesquite tree at Osprey Overlook. Thorn bushes like to grow close to these trees keeping their roots shaded. The walking trail to Alligator Pond road that Will mowed last week looks pretty good. We did a little trimming and it is wide enough for two to walk side-by-side. It was about 90 degrees and we drank lots of water and tried to stay in the shade; Will was nice and cool in the bobcat while drilling the fence posts as it is air conditioned. Kathy directs the drill to the correct position and Will drills the hole out. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the hole deep enough. When the holes are drilled Will puts a post into each one and we measure to make sure it is the proper height or we tie a string to the end posts and use that to make sure that they are all the correct height. After setting the posts at the proper height we push a little dirt in and Will taps it down so the post will not move. Then we add the rest of the dirt and Will taps it down. We do about five posts a day, but the last few days since we will be leavin soon and want to see the project complete we did six one day and nine the other.
We manned the visitor center today and it was nice and cool in there. Today Kathy typed up opening and closing instructions for the To Do Binder. We had 108 visitors and over $500 in sales.
