For all out there that want to see one list of Mardi Gras activities, I've compiled what I could find from all the area websites I could find.

We're experiencing several holidays and traditions in a short period this year. Least of those is not Mardi Gras!

Fat Tuesday this year is February 16th. This is always the day before Ash Wednesday.

Texans do not generally get the day off from work for this special holiday. Some of us are jealous for those in our neighbors of Louisiana who do.

Our Golden Triangle area of southeast Texas is hopping with Mardi Gras activities at this very moment. Floats and costumes are being assembled, trinkets to throw from the floats and to share with the masses are being readied, King Cakes are being baked by the thousands to be shared with all. Parties are happening to get everyone in the mood for the big day. Parades are expecting to draw and dazzle the crowds. Children activities are being planned and everyone is just excited!

Mardi Gras royalty are to be unveiled, gumbo cook-offs will be delicious and entertaining, crawfish races and the race for the chicken are all on the list of activities.

We can't all be royalty but who would know by the way we act and dress!

What other time of the year do you get to wear colors of purple, gold and green at the same time?! Happy decorated masks and hats are seen on people you would have thought never acted the fool and had such a good time!

I've put together a selection of some of the activities for our area that may interest you. Come on over and have a good time with us!

February 6th - a Saturday - Orange, Texas: Mardi Gras on the Sabine Krewe of Krewe's Parade starting at the corner of Green Ave and Simmons Drive then proceeding through historic downtown Orange

February 11th - a Thursday - Port Arthur, Texas: Courier Parade with concerts after featuring Johnny Vee and ZydeSOUL then Bleu Edmondson Band

February 12th - a Friday - Port Arthur, Texas: Beginning with a concert from Barry Badon and the Bayou Boys, the Krewe of Krewe's Parade begins at Rosehill, down Proctor ending at Houston Ave with yet another concert and by Kevin Fowler

February 12th - same Friday - Beaumont, Texas: 'Krewe of Quilts' quilt show at the Beaumont Civic Center

February 13th - a Saturday - Port Arthur, Texas: Royalty March and parade, a showcase of motorcycles (you can bet they are high dollar and decorated), and a concert featuring the band Boomerang; then a motorcycle run, Krewe of Aurora Grand Parade and ending with the Philadelphia Mummers; two concerts follow with performances by the Louisiana FIYA, J. Paul Jr and The Zydeco Nubreeds and the Randy Rogers Band; very big day in Port Arthur

February 14th - (uhha Valentine's Day, y'all) - a Sunday - Port Arthur, Texas: The Munchkin Parade, concert by Foret Tradition, a truck parade (well, this is Texas) and ending with a concert of none other than Wayne Toups and ZyDeCajun

February 16th - Fat Tuesday - Port Arthur, Texas: Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party at the Bob Bowers Civic Center

So much to do, so much to see, hear and eat! Can I possibly make them all?

Think I'll soak some beans and have red beans and rice tomorrow to set the mood. Yummy.
