Its only a short 70 mile drive from the Black Hills to the Badlands. We set up camp in the town of Wall, South Dakota, famous as the home of Wall Drug. Its a large gift shop/ diner/ tourist trap that started long ago as a simple drug store offering free ice water to travelers. It is advertised repeatedly on billboards along I-90. We did go through the place, very busy, but we did get our free ice water. In the afternoon we went into the national park. It was 98 degrees, but cooled off a little after a rain shower. I like the Badlands. The geologic features are amazing plus plenty of wildlife on the grasslands, and being adjacent to large reservations it has strong cultural ties to the Native Americans. We saw plenty of ... read more

It is 9:41pm, MST and we have "landed" in Wall, South Dakota for the night at Sleepy Hollow Camp. We pulled in here around 7:00pm MST. It's cool here...our coolest night yet, about 60 degrees. Today we have driven 472 miles today, bringing our total to 1,513 miles traveled. Most of today's travel was uneventful. The weather was good until we around 50 miles east of Wall. And what a storm it was! We could literally see it coming toward us, because there are no hills to hide it. There was lightning in every direction and when we finally met the rain, it was downpouring in buckets. We ended up having to pull over on the side of the road because between the downpouring rain and the wind, Larry could no longer see where we were ... read more

Today we travel from Souix Falls to Wall, S.D. We will be stopping off in Mitchell, S.D. to visit the only Corn Palace in the world. The exterior of the palace is changed every year with that years corn crop and other related products. After a relaxing stroll through the Corn Palace and some of the other shops downtown, Leta had a hamburger craving, so we had lunch before leaving for Arrow Campground in Wall. After check-in and set up at the campground, we went to see Wall Drugs, that have billboards in several countries around the world as far away as Kenya, Africa. After a couple hours of browsing through their gift shop, leather shop, art shop, fudge shop, well you get the idea, we all decided we would enjoy eating out this evening. We ... read more
