Some old houses
After a much needed good night's sleep, I was up at around 9, hoping to get out and about early. However, this was before I remembered I had to do some laundry, which delayed me by a couple of hours. Still made it into town for midday though, with the hope of catching a bus tour round town at that time. However, on arrival at the visitor's centre I was told that due to a Christmas parade, there would be no city tours today. This was annoying, but not the end of the world, so I went for a walk instead, [View Full Entry]

Woke at about 7, after a shocking night's sleep because; a) the bed is a good 3 inches too short for me; and b) the girl in my dorm with me had to be up at 4 to get her bus. Was invited to eat some horrible oatmeal by Jane, a sextagenarian staying at the hostel who then tried to hijack my whole day by telling me what I should be doing with my time. However, her nefarious plans were in vain, because I had stupidly agreed the night before to help my new found friends go round the neighbourhood picking [View Full Entry]

Left Savannah this morning and jumped on the Greyhound for a 2 hour journey to its sister city, Charleston. On arrival, jumped in a taxi to my hostel, which I was disappointed to find out seemed to be further out of town than I'd first thought. I couldn't check in until 5, so I wandered round to get some lunch, eventually finding a French restaurant where I had a croque monsieur and pomme frites. Which was delicious apart from the croque monsieur swimming in melted cheese and the frites being so salty, my mouth dried up just looking at them. By [View Full Entry]

Hello! My husband and I have decided to start tracing our journeys here online so that we have a sort of digital scrapbook that we can look at ourselves, share with our family and friends, and with the world at large. Neal and I have been married for about 4 months and have already been on quite a few homegrown adventures. Neal went to Greece in May 2006, but I have yet to leave the US (well, when I was about 4 I went to Canada, but I hardly remember it!). It has always been my passion to travel and meet [View Full Entry]

When Neal went to Greece

Neal and I tied the knot on July 18, 2007, a mere 10 months after we starting dating. We were originally going to do a big shebang and all around February of next year (and accordingly, we booked a honeymoon for then). But we decided to be spontaneous and go to the courthouse. So afterward, we packed up and headed down to Charleston, SC, one of our favorite places on earth! We went two times within a few weeks, so I'll just talk about both times now. We stayed at the Meeting House Hotelboth times, which I found out was one [View Full Entry]

Me on the Ferry

Last March (2007), Neal and I made our way across the state (well, about 2 hours, anyway) to Poinsett State Park. It is wild that there are hills this big in the Coastal Plains of South Carolina. It's nice, though, because it gives us a chance to have a mini-mountain experience without heading allll the way upstate. The trip was pretty simple. We hiked and camped. I think there was only one or two other campers there, and we were off to ourselves so it was fun, but a bit creepy too. We kept the fire going all night and grilled [View Full Entry]

Posted by: Onaxthiel: How can it be this misty in an area that is in a severe drought? It's frigging annoying! My poncho accomplished its assigned mission somewhat, with the top side completely coated in a fine sheen of dew. The bottom, facing us, was also coated in a fine layer of dew. It was a success in that our bivies were mostly dry, but even they had a bit of morning condensation on the outer hull. My ruck sack, bereft of it's normal poncho wrapper that goes on it most clear nights, was also thoroughly coated in moisture. The fact [View Full Entry]

On doit y aller lentement. Depuis notre départ [View Full Entry]

Things to ponder and think about. I did a days work at a place called Dataw Island Marina (punch that into Google and see what I mean!......hmmmmm…..google another global monopoly that may justify its own installment……anyway back to Dataw Island) yesterday and the place quite frankly is bullshit. It’s a gated community where you need white or grey hair, own a golf buggy have a house that has a minimum of 33 bedrooms, have a selection of boats, like golf, be dripping with money and well....... be white! Its surprising too as just like Glen Alpine, Mount Annan or [View Full Entry]
