So, I found out that Eric, our fraternity's traveling Charge consultant, is obsessed with the beautiful upcoming country singer Taylor Swift. He so adores her and the rest of us on the table couldn't help it but look at each other and smile. Our conversation at our little Japanese dinner continued, ranging from Boston's party scene to our pact of hiking up the Mt. Kilimanjaro sometime in the near future, and our brotherhood in the fraternity has been established once more. Only a few hours before, I was introduced to Eric and 'Optimus Prime' at the University of South Carolina's beaut [View Full Entry]

Welcome to South Carolina

TomKat has been at Pawleys Island since December 2007. The South Carolina beach is nice in winter. There are on crowds. There are some cold, rainey, stay-in-doors days. But, there are at least an equal number of warm, sunny, walk-the-beach-in-shorts days. We mostly eat in. The seafood is good at Pawleys Island Seafood on Hwy 17 if you avoid the scallops. The shrimp and salmon are excellent. We have tried a few new restraunts lately. Rocco's in Pawleys was pricey but the atmosphere, Italian food, and service were excellent. Wednesday night out and drive to Greenville, SC. From hearing about their house and stage, we started referring to it as Dreamville. The house is beautiful. Something like 2000 seats, 2 balconies, the stage was like 58’ wide at the pro, as many linesets as we could have ever wanted, tons of flyspace. I would play there every night if I could. The crew was on top of things as well- non-union, but playing by union rules. Not only where they good at their jobs, they enjoyed it. At every venue, with every crew, I keep expecting people from our local. [View Full Entry]

Hello friends! It's Josh again. It's 10 p.m. here in Summerville, and my chain of flights towards Sydney begins in only 8 hours. I'll be heading to sleep after this entry, and waking up at 4 a.m. to take a shower and say goodbye to my cats. I've just spent an incredible week with my girlfriend Erin whom I love very much! After a somewhat emotional morning, we said our "see you soon"s and "I love you"s and I drove home to Summerville to finish packing. Here's what I've got packed! Suitcase 1 is crammed full of 7 pairs of shorts, [View Full Entry]

This is me, by the way, spinning a plate. I thought it would be appropriate.
Welcome all to my amazingly awesome travel blog. I'm going to divide this first entry into two sections. Section One is for people who randomly found this blog, or people I've invited that don't actually know who I am (it happens more than you'd think). Section Two is for people who already know me and want to skip the introductions and howdy-do's and get down to the meat and potatoes of Josh's craaaazy plans. Section One! (Skip this if you already know who I am, or read it anyway. I don't even care!) Hello! My name is Josh Sutherland and I'm [View Full Entry]

Just tall and straight and naked. What's with these? What are they?
D+1 Today, we’re driving. Last night I found out that I am just the right size to lay cross-wise on a king-sized bed. Got up, ate at the hotel, met another guy, Ryan, who is the lighting designer (LD). Then several of us headed for the ballet studio where we had a run thru. It was so fun watching the kids get off the bus, each knowing their job, and then giving me a smile and hug and “good morning, Auntie.” We set some things up as they warmed up with the music director. I loved the sound of 40+ bare [View Full Entry]

Well another RV journey is winding down. I’m in a KOA campground off I-95 in South Carolina tonight and should make it home by late afternoon tomorrow. I started this trip departing a day early to avoid snow and now I’m rushing home to beat more snow that’s forecast for the mountains beginning after midnight Wednesday evening!!! I guess I was close in my prediction. I told family and friends last month to expect a “big snow” during the first two weeks of January while I was in Florida. They got a little bit on the 2nd, but looks like we [View Full Entry]

Neal, Tara, Taylor, and I headed down to Chucktown for a good time. We froze and had a great time...and here are the pics to prove it! We went to the Old Exchange, Angel Oak, the Charleston Tea Plantation, and took the Dark Side of Charleston tour. We also played Apples to Apples (soooo fun!) and Cranium. What a blast!
