Condo in Hilton Head, SC The significant thing that happened today is that we FINALLY left South Carolina! After being in Hilton Head for a week, we left for Greenwood, SC after a telephone call with the endodontist. Tom's brother Stan (also known by his family name of Buddy) and his wife Carol live there. We enjoyed spending time with them in Maui earlier this summer, and were anxious to see them again. We spent a wonderful few days there with them visiting, relaxing, fishing and, as you can see from the pics, eating. Even with my abscessed tooth I was able to eat, since Carol made a big pot of delicious potato soup for me. We had a family fish fry when we got there. On Sunday Buddy and Tom drove up to Charlotte, NC to attend church with Buddy's daughter Mandy and her family: husband Deano and their daughters. Then that night we had dinner with Leigh and Mike, Carol's daughter and son-in-law and their children, as well as her other daughter Alicia and her son. It was so much fun to finally meet people that we've heard so much about. Buddy took us to a couple of typically southern places for lunch; a
little country store that sells everything from lunch to axes, and a soul food cafeteria. Tom and Buddy went fishing and together caught 4 pan fish, and most importantly shared memories of similar times spent with their dad. Buddy, Carol and their families definitely personify the term "southern hospitality". We left Greenwood Wednesday morning and headed back to Hilton Head for Nancy's endodontist appointment. Under the category of "nothing's ever simple", the check engine light went on as we neared Hilton Head, so Tom dropped me off at the dentist and then went to the Dodge dealership a few miles down the road. Luckily it was nothing serious. The dentist was very pleased with my progress, and was able to complete root canal......yay! So this morning we were able to leave South Carolina, drive through Augusta and Atlanta, Georgia, and are spending the night in Clarkesville, TN, a three-state day. Tomorrow we are headed to Kansas City, and hopefully on to Colorado on Saturday, not really sight-seeing but just trying for the miles. Really want to see some things in the southwest before we get home. Again, thanks so much for all your good wishes while I was under the
weather. We're sure looking forward to seeing many of you in a few weeks. From the road, Tom & Nancy
