Butty BuddyThis is what the seat looks like installed over my stock Honda seat.
Over the last year and half my wife has complained about the little 7 ½ inch seat on the back of the Shadow. So I went out on a quest to find a replacement seat to provide her comfort and enable her to take longer rides with me and Thumper.
I checked out Mustang seats, Russell’s and even companies that would rebuild the Honda seat that came with the Shadow. All the seats I found were, in my opinion, way out of the price point I had set for the Shadow. If I had a Goldwing or a large touring bike that I planned on keeping for a life time, then yes $500 or more would be a price point that I could justify, but not for a bike that I hope to replace in a few years. So the search continued.
While I was looking thru Road Bike magazine I saw an ad for “Butty Buddy - The Thousand Mile Seat”. I thought this might be what we were looking for. I visited their website
Butty Buddy and started reading about the seat. The seat comes in two different styles, one that fits over an existing seat
or one that installs on a bare fender. What I liked is that the seat is easily removed and comes with its own caring case. That way when I am on a solo ride I can store the seat in its case.
The “Butty Buddy is 13.5 inches, which gives my wife much more seat area and a higher level of comfort and hopefully relieve her numb bun. I checked out the customer comments and there were a lot of great things said about the seat. Even better was the price. I ordered my wife’s new seat for $149.00 plus $14 shipping.
When the seat was received it was the over the fender style and not the over the seat one that I had ordered. I sent the company a quick email and within a few days I received the correct seat along with a postage paid return mailing sticker for the old other one they sent.
The seat took about 5 minutes to put together and instill on top of my stock seat. I then went into the house got my wife and away we went. The ride was short, due to a prior engagement but
Newly addes stickersThought I would show a few of the new stickers added to the windshild. AMA, Life is Good and the This Blue Line.
I was bound and determined to see how she liked it. We went on a little 10 mile lap around town and my wife was raving about it. She absolutely loved it. Over supper I heard her tell her girl friend how excited she was about the seat. I was relieved and happy. We got home late but I had to see how long it took to put back on once removed. In darkness of our hay barn I was able to reinstall the seat in less than 30 seconds.
Based on that one short ride I would have to say the Butty Buddy was a good buy! Hopefully we will get a longer ride in real soon.
I also had a few seconds to add some of my favorite stickers to my windshield.
Total Miles = 10

This is a really good solution to fixing a passenger seat without messing with a good riders seat. Like I said I have never seen this before. Cool idea, really glad it works well for HER! Reasonable too, I pd $250 for my Mustang passenger pillion.
Hi! In the beginning I loved my butty buddy for the comfort and convenience. Rides were going smooth and really nice until my rubber straps started to rot. Well I contacted the company back in the beginning of the summer 09 requesting new one as implied by the warranty and the customer service agent, I waited and waited and never received them, so I contacted them again (2nd time in the MIDDLE of summer)the of course apologized and said they would ship them right out....I needed them for my ride down to Daytona's Biketoberfest we had planned.
Well again they never arrived. Now, I have contacted them(3rd time begining of WINTER) again to see one last time if they actually follow through with there guarantee. I am very unhappy to be riding around with a item I paid over $100.00 for and have "SHOE STRINGS" attaching it just so I can ride too! This is not professional looking nor honest on their parts. Heck, I even offered to pay for the straps if that was a issue, I was assured it was not......I am still waiting on the straps...............and getting extremely unhappy with the customer service provided.
When I ordered mine ... the company sent the wrong seat. I call them and they sent me the new seat and a shipping label to return the first seat with in a week. I have never had any other dealings with the company. I would send them an email and then report them to the BBB if you did not get service. Let them know before you report them. This has help me in the past when I was dealing with another company. Good luck. My wife is still liking the seat!
