Think critically for oneself and make informed decisions that best suit one’s life? Or listen to your betters and do what you’re told. Remain terrified! Question nothing! Stay home! Nah, that never sounded like me. I think for myself and try to do things that scare me or at least give me a thrill from time to time. Take calculate risks and test boundaries. My mom is the same way. So tomorrow we set off again on another adventure. A three-week round-trip journey to the Everglades at the tip of Florida. We are driving the length of our country in a car I only first drove today. We are retreating from a brutal few weeks of snow and refusing to be coerced into staying put. Life is short. Travel years are fleeting. Alone together is not ... read more

I wrote the following over several days, so it might not flow as well as others I have written, and I finished it up when I got home. Seems like my iphone really chewed up data while I was at Santee SP, and I used it sparingly. I am now home and can add the few photos I need to easily. Read on: Friday found us using another segment of our Atlanta CityPass and touring Fernbank, a Natural History museum with walking gardens. The special dinosaur exhibit was amazing. Featuring the flying Pterosaurs, there were many mini films, interactive displays, and hands on features pleasing to both children and crusty old seniors. We were told there were 500 kids there that day for class trips, and they were loud. Being an experienced Nana Field Trip Chaperone, ... read more

The one about forgetfulness Hi. I’m back. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year! Welcome old friends and readers, and welcome new friends and readers. Please follow along and see what my Snowbird Trip 2018 brings. My first real Florida reservation starts Saturday. I was closely watching the weather for the past week. Knowing I had not winterized my RV, Moya, I knew I had to get out of town before the temperature dipped below freezing for longer than 5 sustained hours. After opening Christmas presents with the family, I went home and undecorated my house, and before 9:00 the next morning, all decorations, inside and out, were boxed up and stowed away. That night, son Tim helped me get Moya out of storage and into my driveway. I don’t know which is worse, loading her up when ... read more

A leisurely pack up and departure from beloved Chesapeake Bay Preserve. The people next door didn’t bother me that much overnight, but I did hear a lot of silly giggles from the tents. They had four cars parked…….way too many people, way too big a fire. I chalked it up to a payback from a time somebody paid it forward to me, I tried to ignore their noise. The shiny red truck on the other hand…….He had to drive all over my campsite to get his truck parked. Rather than having pulled into his site properly he needed space from mine. Jerk. A trip to the laundromat was wonderful. $2.50/load for the small machines for a regular load with cold water. The price went up $.25 for each option you added thereafter: water temp, length of ... read more

We started out the morning at 10 am on our way north. It was a 2 min drive to 95 and we were moving along with all the other snow birds that decided it was time to head home. Yes, the traffic was heavy. We made good time till an accident up ahead backed up traffic for 10 miles. Then it was stop and go, then go like crazy, then stop again. It turned out the accident was in the south bound lane so all our traffic was unnecessary. It was a very mangled tractor trailer, hope no one was killed. Had a couple of stops then got into a driving groove and kept truckin. We arrived at Santee State Park in SC about 4:40pm and settled into our lake view campsite. We went for a ... read more

01-03-10 About a week ago my friend Jim from Myrtle Beach, SC called and asked if I wanted to meet him and Jeff at Lone Star BBQ in Santee, SC. At the time that I said yes, we were having a warm spell with the weather and I felt sure it would be a fun ride. Last night I started having second thoughts when I checked the weather report and found out that the overnight low was going to be 17 degrees. When I got up this morning I was less than happy to read that the thermometer on the front porch indicated a chilly 24. The way to start out any winter ride is with layers and layers of clothing, that is if you don’t have any electric gear to keep you warm. I started ... read more
