I'm leaving for Buenos Aires in a week! I can't believe it's finally here. No, really, I am in such disbelief that I think I am extremely unprepared. I still have to drop off papers at the study abroad office. But they're finished at least. I have vaccines, I have prescription drugs, I have lots of contact lenses, I have money, and I have enough spanish to get through the day. I guess I'm ready then. I have never been away from home for this long, though. I am very nervous about that.
I don't know yet what classes I will be taking when I get there, but they will be taught in spanish, of course. I'll be studying at the Universidad de Belgrano and living in a student building in Balvanera. I know one girl from Pitt that's going, and I've decided to live with her because I'm too afraid to take the risk of living with a bad roommate for 6 months.
The plane will lay over in D.C. and then go straight from D.C. to Buenos Aires (over 10 hours long!). Then I'm there. In Argentina! I'll be there doing nothing for a little over 2 weeks because I had to buy an earlier plane flight in order to pay for my ticket with frequent flyer miles. I say doing nothing, but what I mean is, adjusting, sightseeing, getting lost, learning my way using the subte (their subway system), and hopefully making friends. I suppose I'm most nervous about this part of the adventure because I'll be all alone and I won't even have classes to keep me busy. But it'll be ok. I think I'm a fairly independent person. This is going to be a great time, and I don't even have to have a job while I'm there! It's certainly going to be a foreign experience having time to do homework AND hold a social life!
Goals:
1. Spanish fluency
2. Broader knowledge of Latin American politics
3. Make international friends to keep
4. Be less ignorant
5. Do lots of scary, foreign things and come back smarter
6. Appreciate the way others live
7. Appreciate the way I live
8. Be happy.
Ok! So read my blog, send me emails (kbennett289@gmail.com), watch my videos (http://youtube.com/user/bennettbabe289), and don't forget about me! The scariest part about leaving for so long is knowing that life will move on without you. So please, keep in touch! Send me your address if you want a postcard :-)
The next time I blog...I'LL BE IN FREAKIN' ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!

kim,
I didn't realize you were leaving so soon, I don't know why I thought you still had a lot more time before leaving. Its pretty awesome you are going abroad. I'm really excited for you, it will be a great learning experience. I have no idea what Argentina looks like. Honestly I think of a big rain forest and tribal people. Hahaha, though I am guessing its not really like that =P I want to go to some other countries some day (other then Mexico and Canada).
It's cool that you have this blog, Ill check it out while you are away. I may stop home on Sunday but if I cant please be safe and enjoy your time abroad. Take lots of pics and movies and keep us up to date on how you are doing.
Adam
