PA State HOG Rally
My last HOG Rally of the trip. Each State HOG rally counts as 1 point. This is the 15th part of a series about my trip on my 2005 883 Low Harley Sportster ‘Effie’ from Kansas City to Nova Scotia and back. This was part of my vacation from 4 to 20 AUG 2006
Friday 18AUG06
Up, packed and gone by 8AM. Traveling mostly interstates today, basically all but 30 miles, I made it to the PA State HOG Rally about 3PM. Because of the change in my work schedule I couldn’t stay at the PA rally at all. Managed to stay for a few minutes, it took a little while to find someone to take my picture. I drove by the vendor area and did a quick peek at what they had. One vendor was offering a kickstand that was mounted on the right side of a Harley. At the time I didn’t think much of it, but now as I am writing this up I regret I didn’t just have him install one. I am pulling off the side of highways and parking Effie is spots that were not intended for parking as I try to get her in my ABC pictures. Having a kickstand on the right side of Effie would
have come in handy many times.
The PA rally is in York PA which is really convenient, a stop at the York HD plant will provide the last available ABC pt I can get this year for HD factories. I made it to the York factory about 15 minutes before the gift shop closed. Browsing through the t-shirts I see a VROD t-shirt that pictured one just like my friends. I had to get it for him, there are not a lot of Vrod t-shirts out there so when I find one I try to get it, they only had XLs and he takes a medium, we’ll see if it fits anyway. I hunted up an IBE city that was pretty close to York, Glen Rock (IBE #38) then turned Effie toward home. Well kind of, we are taking a low sweep south on the way home. Defintely want to miss the storms that are traveling across the upper midwest, we will go around the bottom of it to get home.
I have 1400 miles to get home and 2.5 days to do it. Very do able thing, but not a lot of time to mess around on
IBE #36 Glen Rock
This was a fun town to find. Great lanes heading out to it. the way home.
The ride the rest of today was great. Was very comfortable until the sun went down, then I needed my coat. I stopped in Staunton,VA for the night. A Quality Inn that had wireless internet provided a warm bed for the night and a great supper was had at Cracker Barrel which was right down the street. Life is good. I am addicted to the hash brown casserole that they offer as a side dish. But the Friday Fish Fry is the da bomb. That’s my absolute favorite when traveling I try to make it to Cracker Barrel for Friday lunch or supper.
According to the GPS Effie has carried me 6283 miles on this trip so far. That evening I checked on my dragon photos on Killboy. Zeefotos were better. But Killboy does have one that’s not too bad.
