Danni and I have made it to Portland, Oregon! We received a total of 8 rides, some long some short. I started out with 15 dollars in my back pack and we came out with 40 dollars given to us by two of our rides and we were fed 4 times. All of the rides we got we incredible, genuinely nice people just wanting to help out another human being in need. Only one trucker we got a ride from was crass but harmless. Many of the rides we got all we had to do was hang around a gas station with our packs and someone would offer a ride if we happened to be going in the same direction, which was often the case when they asked. odd how that when someone offered us a ride it was most often in our direction.
We left Sunday morning and got dropped off in Topeka around 9:30 am, we moved to a different on-ramp but had a ride in an hour. We made good time to get here, but it would have been better if we had not have gotten stuck in Idaho. Boise was really hard to get out of and we got stuck for about a day and half, until a very nice trucker named Julio gave us a ride all the way to the apartment we are staying at now. He offered us the ride, and he was actually headed to Seattle but went 45 miles out of his way to take us to Portland because he didn't mind doing so. And no he did not expect anything in return but good company and conversation, he even bought us a meal.
Last night we got into town around 7:00pm, dropped off our stuff at the apartment of the lady we are staying with through couchsurfing (her name is Lilli, and she is rockin') and went to this big artsy festival thats 2 miles long they have the last thursday of every month. It was so much fun, we met some interesting people, saw lots and lots of beautiful art, street musicians, and fire dancers. It was a huge event that happens every month, they even closed down the streets where it happened because so many people came. At this place I met a lady selling her paintings and she had a sign up that said "traveled across america on 13 cents and a bag of paint from nyc to portland for love." I haven't had a chance to check out her blog or anything yet but she does put up a lot of information (that is the drift I caught from her) about how she did this and her experiences with it. Her contact is www.myspace.com/julieloveartist
You all should maybe check her out so maybe your hope in humanity can be refreshed with out having to do the traveling yourself. My experiences on this trip so far have definitely gave me more hope and love for the great and kind people of this earth. There are more than we realize. Of course there are still the crazies and the bad people, but have a positive attitude about things settling into place and it will happen naturally.
Peace and well being.

I saw the link to your blog from your facebook. Words can not express how much I respect your decision to take on such a lifestyle and see the world! Your travels have been my semi-hidden desire for years. I, however, am far too scared to act upon them. I suppose I'll have to make do with living vicariously through your blogs. Natasha
