Today was another one of our rest days. These days have become a day when Joanne gets to relax at the trailer and the rest of us go hiking in the area. This works great for everybody. Our hike today was to the Devils Thumb. About 5 miles round trip with 500 ft of elevation gain. Some great views with very few people. Tomorrow we drive to Cresent City and the California Redwoods.... read more

Well today was another great day of exploring and good weather. The temperatures have been in the 60s along the cost and warming up to 80s inland. Rather cool by our St George standards, but we aren’t complaining. Our first stop today was the Tillamook Creamer. We took the self guided tour which surprisingly was very well done and informative. After the tour we bought lots of cheese not like you can’t get the same stuff at any grocery store. So we came back to the trailer with more stuff we can’t get into the refrigerator. After Tillamook we started on the Three Capes Scenic tour. Our first stop was the Cape Meares and the Cape Mears light house. We did a little hiking and toured the light house. It is the shortest light house on ... read more

Oregon 2018. Lincoln City D9 All I can say is that Lincoln City is long and thin. It must be a 6 mile strip intersected by the racetrack called Highway 101. Being a rest day Andrew and myself got our bikes out and rode 23 miles, just to prevent our legs from seizing up. Firstly we headed south through town on minor, lumpy, roads to Taft and Cutler City, which are really part of LC. There we saw miles of black sandy beach littered with massive trees washed up by the tide and read about the local indigenous people who were almost wiped out by diseases spread by settlers in the 1840’s. Surprisingly this Yacona tribe used to flatten their heads in childhood with planks of wood to distinguish themselves from neighbouring tribes. Following this visit ... read more

Oregon 2018. Lincoln City. D6 Correction for yesterday. We passed through Cannon Beach, not Canyon Beach. Today was rather cooler than previously and in the mid teens. The mist did not clear until after lunch and even then it was never totally clear. Jackets on jackets off, jackets on jackets off and in it went. As we left Garibaldi we passed loads of fishermen in small boats harvesting the fertile waters of Tillahook Bay. Piles of oyster shells were at the roadside. For crushing for fertilizer? Alongside was a business called Oregon Coast Railriders which operated pedal operated bogies on the railway line seating four people who have to pedal to make the bogey run up and down the track. I would need paying for that. Further on we saw Graham with his bike upside down ... read more

Day 34 - Had a couple of things on the motorhome that needed attention so decided to take care of them today and spend the rest of the time relaxing. On recommendation of campground host we had dinner at Pier 101 Seafood Restaurant in Lincoln City. The food was ok, but restaurant is showing its age and needs a thorough cleaning and updating. Day 35 - Needed to resupply some items, so went shopping and then cleaned up the truck. Day 36 - Traveled to Mt. Hood Village an Encore RV Resort. Facilities were very nice, but sites were nothing special.... read more

We take off today on The Three Capes Scenic Drive for Cape Kawanda, Cape Lookout, and Cape Meares. Visited the Meares Lighthouse where we walked a short trail to see the Octupus Tree. Visited Sand Lake which is sand until high tide. Met a couple from Portland that told us about some places we might want to visit in that area.Of course they said we had to do Mt. Hood which we already had planned, but they recommended the Mt. Adams area and White Salmon River which we visited both of them.... read more

Here are some pictures of our adventures the past few days. Also, I forgot to mention that the area we are staying in, although beautiful and the people are friendly, is not exactly the ideal place to stay because as you enter the town you are faced with many signs stating: YOU ARE ENTERING TSUNAMI TERRITORY perhaps, the property here is cheap!... read more

August,6, 2013 - Tuesday Our day started with a trip North to Lincoln City and a really long (7 miles) town along the coast. At the very end if you turn off by the DQ you can see a statue of Abraham Lincoln on his horse. The horse has his head down and Abe is reading a book. He was asked in 1848 to be the Governor of Oregon but turned it down in order to be a lawyer on horseback. Very interesting historical fact. From there we went to a Tanger Outlet Mall and yes, had to stop for an Espresso and a Chai Latte – the best one I’ve had yet - and walked around and checked out the shops. Then to Mo’s for some yummy halibut and salmon. Then our return trip home, ... read more
