Chevy CobaltPretty nice little car. Fully loaded with Leather seats, moon roof, XM Radio & ONstar
Before we start, a couple of things:
1. Sorry we have not been responding to comments. Finding internet access has been challenging and by the end of the day we have just enough energy left to create these entries. But to those of you who have left comments, thank you and keep them coming!
2. Super happy birthday to my wonderfully great dad, P Daddy, aka Rich. I hope you had a great day, I miss you!
This entry will be a lot shorter than our last entry, I promise.
We woke up this a.m and did not go running, despite our best intentions. I was soo sore from all the walking and running we did the day before. So we hung around and then picked up our rental car. We were a bit nervous while we waited in line because we heard the Budget person tell the woman in front of us that they "didn't have any cars left" and they gave her a Ford Escape. We had decided earlier that we didn't want an SUV because of the high gas prices. Luckily she had two choices for us- Toyota Yaris and Chevy Cobalt. We chose
the Chevy, a cute white coupe with leather interior, sunroof, pioneer sound system and best of all, satellite radio. Jamie found a station that was doing 30 days of Coldplay, and we listened to that station from Seattle to Astoria.
Jamie drove from Seattle to Astoria- about 189 miles. We stopped in Astoria because Jamie's dad was stationed here but we couldn't figure out where and also because we heard it was the town that the Goonies was filmed in. We were a bit disappointed with the town- kind of rundown. we don't even have any pictures to show because we were real hungry and a little lazy. The best part was getting there- we went over this amazingly long bridge We have video to post but the file is too large to be posted. We stayed long enough to have lunch and hit the road again, this time I drove. Oh and I know now the address of the house that was used in Goonies- if we had that then, we definitely would have looked for it.
So, I was to drive from Astoria to Lincoln City. We took the Pacific Coastal Highway the whole way, which
made the trip about 4 hours long. We passed some incredible shoreline and views, and stopped at Cannon Beach for a bit- a very cool beachside community where, if you look at the pics we took, you may recognize the beach- it is the beach in Goonies where the gang finds the Fratelli's. The big rock is called Haystack Rock. It is enormous and it was very cool seeing it in person.
When we finally ended up in Lincoln City around 6 pm, we were both exhausted. Our first attempt at getting a hotel was unsuccessful b/c they promised wifi access and it didn't work. It worked out for the best b/c other than the awesome view of the beach, the room was sketchy and outdated. We tried the Comfort Inn and for a decent rate got a brand-new, never before used large room. It's in a brand new wing of the hotel. Best of all, the internet connection works.
Lincoln City is a small beach city along the central oregon coast. We haven' done much here yet except for getting dinner. We ate at a cute family-owned restaurant called Richen's, and then just came back here to
the hotel. Tomorrow we plan on exploring a bit, maybe going for a run, and most importantly buy a tent!
sidenote: Tsunamis are a very real threat to the Oregon Coast. There are evacuation routes posted all over the place, and hotels have information regarding what to do if there is a tsunami. If an earthquake occurs and you can feel the shaking, you have to stay in a safe place until the shaking stops, and then make a very fast run for higher ground- you have between 15 and 20 minutes to get to a safe zone before a tsunami could hit the coast. If an earthquake occurs further offshore and you don't feel the shaking, but a public alert is announced, you have a couple of hours. I really really really hope an earthquake doesn't happen!!
Haystack Rock This huge rick made an appearance in the movie Goonies
The Beach at Lincoln City. This is from our first hotel. THe Wifi didn't work and the room smelled bad. We got a refund and went to the comfort inn.

Hi Leslie, we have been getting the comments. Thanks you for them. We haven't been able to respond to them with all the technical difficulties we had in Lincoln City. We are having a blast. We will be camping tomorrow night at Crater Lake and then in the redwoods on sunday.
First Goonies never say die. Second, so jealous of the cruising the Pacific coast Highway and third glad you found a non sketchy hotel with wifi.
Thanks for keeping your comments PG Cegs.
