Most times when someone sets out to write a recount of their travels it’s a listing of the day’s events and why it was so cool. I’ve done this countless times. I decided that this time I wanted to provide a small insight into the mind of the person behind the camera. Whether or not this is a good thing you can decide. ----- The closest body of water to my house in Southern California is a man-made river across the street that barely has any water in it. We have a pool but the water is too cold to swim in and the neighbor’s parrots make it hard to enjoy the backyard. Noise – we have lots of noise: parrots, traffic, car stereos, and house parties. Until an off switch is created, how do you ... read more
Day 12: Sunset on the Beach
Published: October 4th 2009North America » United States » Oregon » Gold BeachToday we drove from California into Oregon. We decided to take the scenic route on Highway 101. It was so nice to see the ocean. It was definitely the best view we had on our trip so far. We didn't stop to do anything, besides eat lunch, because we wanted to make it to our hotel in time so we could see sunset on the beach. We made it in time, and had plenty of time to walk along the beach and view the ocean. ... read more
The trip has come to a close and my feet are back to solid ground in Salt Lake City. When I initially left D.C. I never could have dreamed of what this trip would entail. I am a better person for it. My life will forever be changed by those who I came into contact with. I love you all and hold a deep respect for all our memories we shared. Much love to you all. Thanks again. Across the Yaquima Bay in Newport and on the way this morning, down the coast, a very scenic route, glad we came down this way. First stop (apart from photo opportunities is Seal Rock where you can view the Sea Lions in the worlds largest Sea Cave (everything you do in USA is either the largest, biggest, longest, or smallest in the world - they even have the worlds best chowder in 3 million and five different restaurants). You go down 200 ft in a lift from the top of a cliff into a very large sea cave where you can view the Sea Lions, males can grow up to 1000lb, females a sprightly 250lb. Apart from that wonderful sea lion smell it is great. Then up top ... read more

Published: June 21st 2009North America » United States » Oregon » Gold Beach19th June, 2009. Gold Beach, Oregon. Up early this morning, had to be at the mail Boat Landing at 7.30am for check in. Today we went on a Jet boat ride 40 miles up the Rogue River. The Rogue River is 214 miles long and you can take a trip up the river, either 32, 40 or 52 miles. There are also 3 day rafting and canoeing trips. Miserable morning, they said it was mist, I say it was light rain and very overcast, never mind, bit of a delay and we set off in our rain coats and big tarps over our legs. First stop was to view the Bald Eagle who was perched up in a tree, then onto a river bank to observe another one. The river rises 168 ft from the point ... read more
Just a short blog so these photo's have a space. After leaving San Francisco we had 3 days to get to Seattle where we were staying with Denise our friend from India. We drove out of San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge (of course) And continued up the US 101 coastal highway all the way to Portland before taking the I5 from Portland through Vancouver (Washington) to Gigs Harbour Seattle. The drive was beautiful and the coastline very reminiscent of New Zealand. The Oregon coast had conifers, gorse (in flower) and black rocky coast with brown/black sand. It could have been anywhere on the west coast of NZ. We had 2 beautiful days cruising up the Californian and Oregon coast and stayed overnight in Oregon in a place called Golden Beach, where most of the ... read more
