We slept in; it's a holiday!! 29 years ago today I was in Labor on Labor Day! Josh's B-day Sept 3rd. We had coffee out on Pati's balcony. I wish I had taken a picture. It is pretty; her plants and flowers are beautiful...the humming birds are always fighting. We were lazy most of the morning; we started our laundry. We brought it with us; much easier than doing it at a laundry mat.
We took showers then headed down to the Great American Ball Park. We parked at Pati's work lot...so convenient; it is one block to the stadium. We stopped at the Red's gift shop outside the ballpark. We asked if they had any Pete Rose shirts, hats, etc. Of course the answer is no. Major League baseball will not allow anything with his name on it...they don't recognize him...OK, I know he a creepy cheater but he still is the all-time Major League leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at bats (14,053) and outs (10,328). Ken bought a Reds hat and I got a t-shirt. We have great seats (love Stub Hub!). Yes, you pay more but we don't go very often (same with concerts) and
we'd rather have good seats or watch it on TV or download the song. We are very close to home plate on the 3rd base side, about 15 rows back. It is so, so hot. We are in total sun. I went to First aid and got some sunscreen. We bought some beers and each got a Hebrew National hot dog! Two rows in front of us, there was a family with a baby in a car seat. The baby wasn't more than 5-6 months old. It is way too hot for a baby! They tried to keep him shaded, but the poor thing is miserable. It's really outrageous. Several times during the game I got up and walked around where the concessions are to cool off. Ken only got up to go to the bathroom. He saw a guy a few rows down that had a Pete Rose jersey on and went and took a picture of him and asked him where he got it...Koch's Sporting Goods downtown. Ken called them the next day...yes they have them in stock...starting at $200 each; never mind!
It was a really good game-the Reds beat the Cardinals 7-2.
Afterwards we
walked to the Yard House right on the river. Except for the heat it is a beautiful late afternoon. We ordered a grilled artichoke for an appetizer. Pati had never had one and didn't know how to eat it. Once we showed her, she didn't 'get it'....until she got to the heart! For dinner Pati ordered Ahi Tuna salad, Ken and I split grilled swordfish and steamed vegetables and Caesar salad. It was good.
Afterwards we drove to the Ludlow Bromley Yacht club in Ludlow, KY. It's an outdoor bar with a marina on the Ohio River. Just a loved by locals hole in the wall, really. They only serve beer in cans and only take cash. It's definitely filled with locals. I think Pati knows half of the people here. Uncle Don has been here. He used to come by boat with his neighbor. Ken decides to call him from there and tell him where we are.
It was time to go back to Pati's. We watched a movie: Olympus Has Fallen- and ate popcorn. Fun Day!

Babies in the sun
That really is shocking! I was hiking one time at Shaw Butte in Phoenix in the late spring (so you know it was hot!) and I saw two young ladies with a toddler. The kid had no hat and they hadn't brought any water. It looked like the kid was gonna collapse! Some stranger ran over and starting pouring water all over the kid. Some people are so careless with the lives they are entrusted with!
