We started planning this trip about a year ago. Mom needed to scratch another item off her bucket list and I have always wanted to go to Norway. It was an easy decision because The Travelling Professor has a tour that includes Denmark, Norway and Iceland. We had joined him and his partner, Linda, for our adventure in France two years ago and decided that we would take the leap and go. Originally, I wasn't sure I'd be able to join for the entire trip but when we found plane tickets for $800, I asked my boss if I could take two weeks, she said yes! My ticket on Delta for just Denmark and Norway would have been $1500 but by flying Icelandair I was able to save $700 AND include Iceland in my travels. The ... read more

Two weeks. Just two weeks until I head to France with my mother. All arrangements have been made. Tickets, hotels, rental car, a loose intinerary and a general idea of the things we want to see and do. I'm feeling a little more nervous than normal. The language barrier and reputation of the French certainly contribute to the anxiety. Ranger Rita has not failed me though. I have a vision of how the weeks should play out and know there will always be adjustments. Relax, be yourself, be flexible and when all else fails....eat cheese and drink wine! ... read more

Geo: 41.3989, -83.6539Where did all my planning time go? Ok, ok....yes, it's all planned. Ranger Rita was in full effect over the last few months. For those of you not "in-the-know", Ranger Rita is one of my personalities. She makes certain that no detail is overlooked, no amount of planning is too neurotic and every book ever written has been read. She is the reason I carry a 20lb. day pack. She is loved and respected by the rest of the family since they benefit from her lunacy (and they don't have to carry that 20lb. pack). So, we're ready....I think.~Plane tickets and passport, check!~Accomodations, check, double check and re-confirming in a few days!~Train tickets out of and returning to London, check!~Planning guides (what does one DO without Rick Steves?), check!~Blog (for those of you that want ... read more

Geo: 41.3989, -83.6539What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughsAnd stare as long as sheep or cows.No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty's glance,And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth canEnrich that smile her eyes began.A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.~William Henry Davies... read more

While in Ohio, we went to my sister Darlene’s 50th Birthday party at her home. We also went to my Uncle Bob’s 80th birthday party at Gay’s home. I saw cousins I had not seen in many years which was very nice. Dad, Carol and I went for a 16 mile bike ride on the Slippery Elm trail where a bench h was placed in memory of my sister who passed away last May 2nd of a brain tumor. So most of this post is in memory of my sister Diana. Diana loved the water, beach and riding her bicycle. She would ride the Slippery Elm trail several times a week and sometimes twice a day. I think it is about 30 miles round trip from her home. She and Artie came to Charleston in Sept ... read more

Warmer weather was still long coming. We left the west coast and headed thru Idaho and into Montana. Still 50’s during the day and 40’s at night. We went to Glacier NP, the pass road was being repaired so many places were single lane and foggy. This was also a great park. We went to Yellowstone on July 4th. We set up camp in Norris Camping area. We were the only tent which seemed strange. They had bear signs around and two Grizzly bears had been visiting the park all day. So on July 2nd they had captured the male and sent him off and the female had left. July 4th was the first night they had allowed tents back into the camping area. We went to Old Faithful and it was nice but a lot ... read more

So after surviving the longest roadtrip ever, Barry (my car) called it quits on what was suppose to be a short trip to Columbus. So here I sit, in url=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=&city=bowling+green&state=oh&zipcode=Bowling Green, Ohio waiting for a new fuel pump. I had to stay overnight waiting for the part to come in, luckily my mechanic, Julian, was a really nice guy and dropped me off at a motel yesterday. I was feeling really grumpy because of the whole situation so I really didn't do much exploring. But Bowling Green appears to be your normal Midwest town: there's a university here with a pretty popular football team and it seems like overall there are more cars than people. I sort of w... read more

Wow! I can't believe I only have 11 days left in the U.S. I'm currently in BG hanging out with my friends and saying my goodbyes. It's a lot of fun seeing everyone- especially in their new apartments! No more dorm life for us... unless I get stuck in one when I get back. The next time I write I will probably be in London! ... read more
