Greetings from North Carolina. So far I've seen two freeways, one highway, a parkway, two Hampton Inns, and the airport. My travels are the stuff of legends I tell ya. The trip to the hotel reminded me of driving through Charleston. The freeways are surrounded by green and very few buildings are visible from there. Everything is so spacious and far apart. I expected gas to be cheaper around here though. I know it's the 2nd most populated city in North Carolina, but I still imagine there being a lot less cars here than in California. And gas is only cheaper by about $.20/gal.
Washington, DC was pretty cool. My feet were aching by the end of each day, but I got some great pictures and I saw most of the things you're told to see when you go there. So I think I can punch my card. One more airport and I think I get a free sandwich.
I'm sort of annoyed that the Metro is the best form of transportation in DC because while it did make getting around to the different sights a little easier and super cheap, I didn't get to see any of the in between. I couldn't discover anything on my own. I had to know where I was going everyday before I got there instead of just finding interesting eye catching places along the way. I'm a fan of mass public transportation, but as a tourist, I feel I was missing out.
I'm not sure what to do in Raleigh. There are a few family activites to attend, an old friend to get in touch with, and other than that maybe a little historical education. I've already learned that Raleigh was founded in 1792 and named after Sir Walter Raleigh, and that was just from the elevator in the hotel (didn't Clive Owen play him in the Elizabeth sequel?).
Hopefully I'll get around to uploading pictures soon. It's kind of a long and annoying process on this website, so I might just do a facebook album.
