Las Abejas
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Less Than A Week Away
A week from today we will be in Guatemala. The excitement is building. We thought you might want to know why we are calling ourselves Las Abejas. It means "the bees" in Spanish.
During one of my Spanish lessons a few weeks back, I told my tutor that I was going home after our lesson to shear "mis abejas" (my bees) as opposed to "mis ovejas" (my sheep). It was shearing day at the farm. You should have seen her face as she tried to imagine such a spectacle.
Seemed like a fitting symbol to what will certainly be a journey filled with many stumbles and missteps, linguistically and otherwise. Finding the humor in it all will be key. Plus, we are trusting that a little North Carolina pollen mixed with a little Cuban pollen can make some sweet honey. More on that later.
